And if you knowingly allow damage to happen to the car, that could be construed as insurance fraud. Better try to mitigate the damage first.

Besides, hail is unlikely to total a car. You'll be out your deductible, AND you run the risk of a shoddy repaint and body work on the repair.. Try to preserve those stock body panels and finish.

I think this is a question best answered by your insurance company.
Call them, ask about that type of coverage, what it costs, and get ALL THE DETAILS, so there's no surprises, in the event you ever have to file a claim.

I'm not sure what size hail you're expecting, but it better be boulder size hail to write off your car. If you really want a convertible, just sell what you have and buy one.
But, if hail is a common occurrence in your area, I'm not sure a convertible purchase is very wise.

Yea, we don't get much hail here in Kentucky. Random tornados, mostly rain and wind with a little snow thrown in for shits and giggles.

Clean out the "crap" and park your car where it gets some protection.

The OP sounds like your trying to make some $ or trade up on the insurance claim.

It's not going to happen and if ya try it's called fraud and could net some time with Big Bubba as your roommate/bunkmate.

It doesn't sound like you care too much for your car- living in a hailstorm haven and having your garage full of stuff- and leaving your car out in the elements???

And then already planning on getting a convertible?

To answer your original question OP, if you make a claim on your car against hail damage, your comprehensive coverage deductible would be used and you car’s blue book value will be considered while calculating your totaled car’s value. That’s how car insurance works.

now you just got to hope its a total loss. because otherwise you are screwed. you and i both know even if they fixed it to original condition the value takes a tank after that. any one who tells you otherwise is a liar. if you tried to get rid of it and it was found to be in hail damage status you would be offered nothing for it. on a trade in or otherwise.

Statefarm will replace the car with another. If the car is less than 2 years old. This is what my statefarm agent told me if mine got totaled, stolen, or results of weather.

Not all State Farm policies have that coverage, it is actually state specific.
