Sticker on a fully loaded on a 2002 Camaro SS (non-convertible) was around 32K if memory serves me.

A fully loaded 2010+ 2SS/RS with the options = close to 38K

6K higher-- that isn't too terribly bad for 8 years difference, but they aren't cheaper now.

But the 2002 SS only put out 325 HP. You get 101 more HP today, in an arguably better looking and safer car.

Adjust for inflation also

But its not "cheaper"

that was my only point. I even noted that it wasn't that much higher in price considering the 8 year difference (which is me acknowledging inflation)

You can't really cant calculate HP into that factor, Because most all cars across the board have signifcant HP increases.
Hell most people snicker at anything under 300hp now, but in 2002. Besides an exotic. Your Camaro or TransAm was pretty much the king of the road.

Now family sedans are running 13.xx quarter miles.

It may sound like sour grapes, but I'll hold my congratulations to GM on their success, until they can come up with a suitable and reliable replacement for the poor clutch, servos and rear axles that have plagued so many members here. Bolts that back out destroying discs, launch control that smokes clutches and axles that snap, just isn't the quality that I remember from GM in the past. I am happy for them, but this enthusist's car should allow it's owners to show enthusiasm without breaking so easily. I maybe wrong. My appologies if I offend.

Actually, it IS cheaper if you're pinning it on these two price points. With the CPI as the base, inflation makes that 32K SS back in 2002 (my own SS was near 35K in 2002) right at a hair above 38K today but the inherent safety features are worth more than that, not to mention the ameneties such as bluetooth, USB/mp3 support.

Now, what do you get for practically the same money?

OnStar? not in 02

Auto-dimming mirrors? not in 02

Backup sensors? not in 02

Side air bags? not in 02

DIC and TPMS (and now HUD in 2011)? not in 02

Approx. 25% more HP than an 02

Brembo premium brakes? not in 02

IRS? not in 02

And probably a huge convenience point...the ability to turn off your headlights in the new Camaro!

All this and still gets decent fuel mileage when you don't stand in it.

This is not to discredit the 4th gen at all, but even at today's prices, the new Camaro was, and is still, a heckuva deal for what you have to pay, IMO.

All I'm really saying is both Camaros were a lot for what you paid for in their respective eras, but I think today you get a tad bit more for the money.

But...I digress...GM better KEEP doing these sort of profits...and get out from under the government thumb.

Way to go GM, hang onto that solid #1! Fantastic numbers. Keep up the great work.
It seems the word is getting out about the outstanding GM vehicles being produced and, more importantly, the people are listening.

An FYI for those that may not have heard, since it was not widely publicized (tv news item where Obama visited Ford mfg site the other day).
The govt has just guaranteed Ford's debt. I guess because they were/are trying to borrow some more money with already huge debt (?bond offering?). Seemed to have something to do with the new financial regulatory laws and Ford wasn't gonna be approved.
Thought I would point out since GM always getting slammed for govt help (hopefully, soon to be a thing of the past).
I know, confusing, at least to me. Hoping for Ford to be a solid #2 in units sold again.

Pardon my jab/laugh for the day (names omitted, no offense):
A higher percent of something, is now more that something.
A Higher percent of nothing, is now still nothing.

First I will say you completely don't understand what Ford is doing. Second when the government is offering money cheaper than anyone else isn't it smart business sense to choose them. Do you know how many businesses qualify for and accept these lower interest government loans??? Do you even know what the government program is that Ford is getting the loan from???

Sorry but I don't think you really understand.
