I have always had a spare car, my sports cars are never daily drivers. Rain, salt road grime all that wreak havock on your car. You will notice a major difference in you "new" car after one hard winter, it will look weathered in some places.

For me it is luxury to have 2 cars and not all can afford. But I'll tell you this winter I'm changing from Mass Registration to NYS in the spring (have a house out there). In the meantime the camaro will be unregistered for the winter and have only liability and comprehensive insurance on it. Same thing with my motorcycle, taking it off the road for winter and not paying insurance on it period.

Get a good quality beater like any old GM (buick centry, grand prix, grand am,etc) most engines/trans are bullet proof so even if someone didn't care for it well it will still run longer than most other cars. I have a saying that most GMs will run shitty longer than most imports run period

Why do you need liability insurance on an unregistered car that wont be driven? When my Camaro gets put away after this weekend the insurance for the next 5 months will be about $100.00 for comprehensive only. Collision and liability insurance are not needed when the car is parked.

I'd leave full coverage. Ya,I left minimum but my car is wrecked and insurance won't pay for it. Well, atleast I saved $400..LOL

I had a bike stolen with minimum insurance during the winter. Lesson learned.

I've always had 2+ cars. Makes it enjoyable driving a sports car every once in awhile.

LOL Too true.

To those considering yanking insurance remember the story of the guy who's father moved the car to a garage for him just after he pulled the insurance and slid on the ice into a tree. Make sure it's someplace safe before pulling any insurance and make sure to put it back on before even thinking of moving it. Also my insurance is set up for the fact that it's a secondary car so it really doesn't cost much to just leave it alone all year long. So you might want to look into that too.

No you don't. At least not with USAA. I can drop parts of my insurance if it is off the road and unregistered.

And as far as my bike getting stolen, its locked in a garage where you would have to steal my camaro to get it out or a mercedes.

Just do whatever is best for you. I don't need the risk of someone hitting my camaro in the winter...

My bike got stolen by someone that actually jacked up a truck (against the garage door)to move it back enough for the garage(locked) door could be opened to roll the bike out. All done while we were sleeping.

As said- to save a few bucks- not worth it.

If I could have my way, and the luxury, I'd just have a Summer and a winter Camaro.

This is why I drive mine year round. I could afford a beater, but I can't stand driving ordinary vehicles.

If I had it my way, I'd drive my Camaro in the winter, and a Corvette in the summer. But I'm not rich.

Here is an LOL for you all...I spent 3.5hours and I was only able to get one of my winter tire/wheels on...

I had the front end up on stands and the front wheels off. Put one of the new wheels on, and when to screw the lug nut on...only to find that it didn't fit...The counter bore on the Bremmer Kraft wheels that I got are too small for the stock lug nuts.

Sooo...I put the stocks back on the front, threw one of the snows in the trunk (yes it fit) and went to a buddy of mine who has a plethora of spare parts, including lug nuts. Buttt....he didn't have the 14x1.50 that are on the Camaro (he only had 12mm). So, off to the parts store. Got 5 packs of the 14's, but I still needed a socket (wanted Craftsman), so we had to travel up the road to Sears. Found the 13/16 socket (1/2 drive) to fit lug nut. Back out to the car to test fit both the lug nut and the socket into the wheel in the trunk. The lug fit in the hole, but the socket...not so much.

Luckily, my buddy had a 3/8" drive 13/16 socket, which has just the right OD on the socket to fit into the hole. And just for good measure, we jacked up the back of the car and threw the wheel in the trunk onto the driver's rear...Luckily it all fit...

Till tomorrow, for the rest of the saga...I hope the TPMS sensors work...

I have the LS heritage wheels that I put the Pirelli Scorpions on last season and they were awesome all winter. I still have the original all seasons that came on the wheels(they are still for sale if anyone is interested). I figured if I was getting an extra set of wheels, I'd better make them real snow tires. I don't regret driving it year round for a second! I drove through the middle of every storm New England could throw at me last season. Only one of them made the car kinda sketchy... I think it was because the snow was getting pretty deep and the car has a wider track them most cars on the road... it wandered back and forth a little, but I still seemed like the most sure footed car on the road even then...
