OK, so do you like the new shifter and can you really feel the 22% reduction from the stock shifter? Is it quieter and feel more firm than the stock one?

I really like the new shifter.

I certainly feel a significant reduction from the stock shifter. Interestingly it feels slightly longer on the forward facing gears (1,3,5) than on the rearward facing gears (2,4,6). I'm sure its just perception, but thats the way it feels to me. I cant quite put a percentage on it but 22% seems a little conservative to me, but that could be because i drove my 4th gen a bit while my 5th gen was in the shop. So in short, I can definitely feel a reduction in the length of the throw.

It is significantly quieter than the stock shifter. I would say 50-60% quieter. My old one was really loud and sometimes i was worried about it, this one is very nice and quiet.

It is definitely a lot firmer than the stock one. This is my favorite part about the new shifter. It has such a firm, precision, positive feel to it compared to the stock one. It a lot less rubbery, i have a lot more confidence rowing through the gears. It just had a great, solid feel to it. On the stock one, sometimes i felt like i had to overcompensate a little bit to get it into second, now I feel fine going straight down, the shifter just wants to go to second now. The same goes for 5th gear. I used to feel like I had to reach waaay out there to go from 4th to 5th in the past. Now its a much shorter, more precise shift. Its tough to find words to describe how much better it feels, but it just feels "right".

I did some shifting in a stationary car on the showroom floor that had the full hurst shifter (aftermarket, not GM) in and I actually prefer the one I got more. The aftermarket is significantly shorter than mine, but it is almost too short and it was lacking in the crispness and positiveness. The confidence I have shifting my hurst was lacking for me in the full aftermarket one.

Looks nice and not that you did anything wrong by urging the dealer to deliver as they promised. But I feel sorry for the guy that buys a Camaro with a Hurst shifter on the sticker, but gets stuck with a regular shifter.

I think that best describes it.

As do I. I asked the salesman about that and he said they would basically sell it with an "IOU a shifter" contract attached. I'm sure it will be a good negotiating point for any buyer though.

Thanks MaddogZ28, I am going to check off the option on the Z28 order sheet but wanted to get the opinion of someone that had the opportunity to use both shifters in the same car. Thanks for the help. Now I just need Chevy to make the Z28.

Definitely a great idea! It just connects you with the car better and really completes the car in my opinion.

Do you mind my asking how much it was? I'm trying to decide if I want this one or the aftermarket one.

thanks.

NOw that I hear how nice this is and some of the issues it relieves, does anyone know how much the OEM hurst is, installed? I think I now want it on my 2LT

@Rip if you aren't getting the GM one free, go with the aftermarket one in my opinion. 22% vs 40%.

Well, online its a 380$ option. I negotiated for the shifter and installation as part of my purchase price of the car so I honestly cant really say how much it ended up costing me.

I am on the "dealer fault" side here. I have been waiting for a part for i think 8 weeks now. They either forgot to order it or ordered the wrong part - over and over and over and over and over again - now, because they cant get their stuff straight - its on back order.

Unless you absolutely have to have a hurst, look at other aftermarket shifters imo. Barton and MGW are the most liked shifters of everyone in the forums. I hear the aftermarket Hurst is good too though. Just saying, shop around first, try and find local camaro owners that have dif shifters, so you can see what they feel like before you make your decision!
