My A6 has been getting about 18 average since I got it. I average about 80% city stop and go in L.A. traffic and only 8 miles each way to work.I only can get on it briefly after work and on the weekend and try to drive for best mpg but still only 18 and thats with or without the intake/exhaust I have done. Freeway and some stop ang go and doing 72-75 I have done 27 and yes the winter gas will eat into your mpg 1-2 mpg or so. Been doing that for ten years out here.

My 2LT RS A6 has been getting 21.3 mpg with the 18" Heritage wheels on for the winter. I did a lot of highway driving yesterday and got 24.7 mpg.

My guess is that several factors are influencing mileage:
Wheel/tire weight: The heavier this is, the worse the mileage
Tire compound: The harder the tire, the better the mileage. However, harder tires don't perform very well. This is a tradeoff.
Gasoline: Winter mixtures give worse mileage. However, many people feel that today's gasolines universally suck, regardless of the season.
"Age" of the car: The car needs some use to loosen up. I baby mine and just passed 3000 miles, so I'm expecting poor mileage. I figure I'll get the advertised highway mileage at ~5000 miles.

The 29 MPG the sticker boasts is just like the 312 HP it boasts...at the crank. LOL. I don't think we will ever see that number.

MPG is not measured at the crank. If I set my cruise at 55 I easily see 32 MPG. At 70 I am around 29 MPG..

NOT TRUE. I got 29.3 MPG on a round trip from my house to my brother in laws this past summer, 322 miles. Driving 70 MPH. This includes some spirited driving once I got there too while showing off my Camaro.

Not true...people (including myself) have gotten the advertised MPGs on the highway.

But if you think the DIC is ever going to show an average MPG rating of 29, your dreaming.

Of course you are never going to see that number if your just simply averaging up your MPGs over a complete trip (talking decent amount of city driving included), but if you ever took the time to view your MPGs while cruising for several miles on the highway you'd see that getting 29 is definitely possible.

My best was a 28.something over a 45 minute trip...so factoring in the MPGs I was likely getting on accelerations and slower parts of the drive, I must have been getting over 29 MPGs during the highway portions.

Definitely was joking about the MPG at the crank. But yes, I never saw over 22 on the DIC. I don't drive the car much. But when I do it usually is a tiny bit spirited. I have tried though to bring the MPGs up by taking a long trip (86 miles) and still didn't bring the numbers up. The only Mod I have is a K&N intake so one would think I would get better mileage. I just ordered a wifi OBDII adapter that I will use to get real time numbers. Perhaps that will shed some light on my situation.

I have seen as much as 33.3 MPG using the DIC, on the way to work resetting everything to 0, set the cruise to 65 MPH and travel 25 miles.
