the way i see it is with DoD, whats the point of a 6 cylinder these days? those who want real economy can get a small 4 banger. Anyone who wants a real car can get a v8 that gets nearly the same milage that a v6 gets (when driven conservatively), but way more power when playtime comes. Personally I will probably get the camaro with the the entry v8, and if I hapen to get lucky and end up with the extra cash I might go for the top dog, but i doubt i will be able to aford it on my own.

Why would they use the cadillac's upscale V6 in the mainstream camaro? I think if they use two V6, they are just going to discontinue one of them. Most likely it will be the high performance one to get cut. If a 60 degree V6 is used, those of us who purchase one with the intent to V8 swap later will be so disappointed because the drivetrain components want be compatible to that of a V8. They need to use one well-balanced entry-level engine. If retro and refinement is the theme, I suggest using the 242/242 hp@5600 rpm/toque@2800 rpm Alas I5. The 69' camaro had a I6. The Alas I5 is multi-valve, powerful, competitive to the mustang's V6, and very underrated because of the truck applications. USING THE CADILLAC'S V6 MAYBE CROSSING THE LINE, A BUST. A V6 is so thinking inside of the box.

Okay, so maybe the DI V6 is a little much...but I doubt we'll see an I6....
that's just me. I can see them using the 3.6L seen in the Aura and the G6. ALSO WILL BE SEEN IN THE G8(with 261 hp) hmmm....But, I mean the DI V6 isn't that out there. it would put the Camaro ahead of every other V6 vehicle in it's class! But I digress, I really think we'll see the 3.6L. |

Im pretty sure it will be that 300hp V6 going in the caddy. now that I think of it 300hp aint something to sneeze at. It would be very hard for me to get another V6. kinda gives you something to think about though!

My whole purpose of getting the Camaro is to own a GM V8 before it's too late for me because of gas prices. I've had a I-4, V6, and Rotary so it's time for the sweets sounds and performence of the V8.
As for me, yes...at least the entry level V8 making at least 350HP I hope.

I'm pretty sure these V8's will last a while, yet. Sure Fuel Prices are going up, but 4-bangers offer almost no bang for the buck in the fuel department. The Impala 4 cyl. got a little better milage rating than the Vette (at the time), but less than half the power. 6-ers are in the middle. But really, V8's seem the Most Versatile to me. AFM, VVT, DI...you name it, it'll make a V8 better than the rest, but behave the same as they do in mileage (almost)

I hear ya Dragoneye, if you look at the Vette it makes 400+ HP and still gets 18/28 in the highway, if I remember right, and that's more than many V6's and not far behind some I-4's (while they make alot less power and torque).
It seems, the most efficient high horsepower engines are V8 while low HP V8's don't make sense because V6 or I-4's can do that job with better efficiency. Take the EVO, sure it makes 300+ HP with a turbo I-4 but it gets like 18/24 which is worse than the Vette while it makes 100+ more HP. Now, for the size of course you probably don't want (and weight) a V8 in a car like the EVO but it sure shows how efficient V8's have become (GM V8's that is).

DI 3.6L (LLT) engine dyno for the 08 Cadillac CTS:
![]() The direct injection VVT 3.6L V6 is the LLT engine, making 304hp in the CTS, 302 hp in the STS V6. The normal VVT 3.6L is the LY7, making 263hp in 2008, previously 255hp in 07. The same LY7 engine makes 242 hp in some other sedan application/tunes, and 275hp in a HO SUV variant.

i hate how they differentiate the graphs like that by putting 0-700 on the torque side, all that is done to make stupid people who dont know how to read a graph say "oooh, look at the horsepower rate of increase!!!"
they could have put 0-400 and not made asses of them selves

I'm not so sure it's that, as much as to be able to differenciate the hp from the torque... for stupid people
![]() How many of your average buyers know that Torque is what actually moves your car, and that hp is how 'fast' (so-to-speak) you can do that... no, advertisements just say: "this much hp, 5 more than our competitors!" (which btw, also for stupid people, 5hp more...damn that alone sells me:eek . Add that to the fact that car-power-illiterate people wouldn't be able to differenciate between the hp, or torque curves, I think that's why they do it............Wow...I have no Idea where all that came from...sorry if I, er, offended anybody...whoops

I really believe all TRUE camaro fans including myself are looking forward to get at least a V8 engine no doubt about it !!! I would not settle for a V6 it's just not right. I currently own a 2000 SS and beleive me the power its really nice I JUST CANT WAIT FOR A 2010 SS or a loaded Z28.

horsepower is how fast you hit the wall
torque is how far you take the wall with you.
