Your dealer is an idiot.
Just follow the Owner's Manual and use 5W-30. I have been using this weight exclusively for the last 20 years, and driving GM cars to 200,000 miles with no problems. However, adding 10W-30 is not going to "ruin" your car. |

Yeah it should be 5, but 10w wont ruin your car. But seeing as you had problems before with the engine and all, go in and ask them to redo it in 5w as the manual states.
Just make sure you check your fluid levels after, I dont trust dealers and I have good reason not to. Goodluck and let us know how it goes. If not, then pour in 10w oil to fill it up until your next fresh oil change

Did you read the invoice? It records the oil used.
It's on the cap too!

Mixing the oil won't hurt anything. And either oil is fine in your car. I'd just start using the 5w30 that GM specifies from now on.

How long has it been since your last oil change? If it's been 3k or longer, instead of topping it off, just change it. Use 5-30 and do it yourself! It's cheaper and you know it was done correctly! The last time my car was at the dealer was delivery day 18 months ago. (As a side note, my V6 has over 19k miles and I have never had to "add" oil between oil changes.)
