It adds too much weight on top of the car. That car is heavy already.

Isn't the roof made partly out of carbon fiber down the center?

If that's the case, it would be pointless to go and cut a big hole in the carbon fiber stripe...

If it was CF, I think someone would've mentioned it when they were discussing the hood insert or any of the other technology going into ZL1. Besides - they said the stripe on the roof was an option, so unless they're using an entire sheet of CF for the roof panel (which I seriously doubt), I doubt their going to cut a hole in the sheetmetal and through roof bracing to save that small amount of weight. Of course - I'm sure they didn't save all that much weight on the CF hood insert, so... lol.

IMO - I think a sunroof should be an option. Though I could never loose the reverse mohawk, I think if there's enough interest for others to have it, it should be offered.

Very sure! The Carbon Fiber insert is only on the hood for the Air/Heat Extractor vents. The Camaro roof has two styles: with the reverse indent/mohawk for non sunroof equipped cars and smooth top without any indents for roofs with the sunroof option. Both roof styles are made of one piece stamped steel that incorporates the rear quarter panels and trunk surround.

You know? To me, it seems there is an outer roof panel, with an inner structure for support that ties the two side aperture panels that you are talking about. I can't confirm, because I don't have a crash manual or anything, though... I am totally with you on the quarter panels and rear trunk sections If I were still at the bodyshop, I might be able to pull up some generic illustrations :( If I'm wrong - I respectfully withdraw my statement, LOL

I have a sunroof on my 2LT but i'm not sure about the ZL1. I cringe to think that would happen if you had the sunroof open and floored it with that kind of horsepower...

I personally think it already ruins the look of the Camaro roof line as it is. I say no. Just my opinion, so don't hate on me.

Wrong.

LOL, do you think it would produce such a giant vacuum that it would suck you out of the car?

Well I want a ZL1 with a sunroof, so I hope so.

Besides how much weight could it add? You're adding glass and motors but don't forget you're removing steel. What's the net gain, 8 lbs maybe?

If you're going to get puritanical about it, why have 6-way powered seats? That adds weight. There's adding weight, and then there's having some basic features like a sunroof that's already offered on existing models.

I don't see them rushing to get rid of powered windows and mirrors to save weight. This is minimal stuff. Please give me a sunroof

I thought the target they were aiming for with the ZL1 was the GT500. That car is available with a glass roof or even convertible. I don't see why Chevy should limit the ZL1 if the competition doesn't.

From what I gather, the Boss 302 is going to be stripped down. Hell, they even rip out the rear seats. If the Z28 is going to go after the Boss 302, I think that is the one that should be stripped down to save weight.

Well if your toupee is not glued down real tight, it will definitely be gone
