I can understand why, the base Vette now surpasses anything worthy of an SS designation...This monster...it'll tear their doors off!

Of course, There could be another, more "real" reason...

Yeah...I'd have to go back and find my original post from the day he came into town. But, he specifically stated which names it would not be called out of the names I threw out there. I specifically remember him shooting down the SS name. I think there's only two names that are possible...being the stingray and the Z07...and I'm leaning towards the latter.

Not trying to steal the thread,... but this Z28 vs SS debate will continue well past the production of this car. Some are favorable to the Z, others to the SS. But here is my moral dilema: I want the Z28,... but would I buy the SS because the motor produces more HP or vise versa? That, is the question,.... My old man has a sweet original 69Z (complete with matching numbers, 32k 302DZ), and I have an '81Z.

Would I offend the Z28 Gods by going SS? I wish not to invoke the rath of the Z-God,....

...just my 2 cents
If you really want to look at your history the SS Camaro started off as an SBC 350cid 300 HP (while the Z/28 was a mere 302cid/290hp), I don't think the 396 was even offered until near the end of the '67 model year. And I can tell you, back in the day big block SS Camaros were not seen everyday on the streets, they were almost a rarity. That said, I'll be happy with a 400-450HP Z/28 and if the SS is top dog with 450+HP, then so be it, I'll still opt for the Z/28 if it has an excellent suspension/handling package.

I like both those names, TAG, both Z07, and Stingray have a certain ring to it. But I think I lean the other way, Stingray is more "original" shall we say? Since the Z06 is already out there, Z07 sounds too much like it... But like I said, either one will fit perfectly.

As for the Camaro, I personally want a Z28...only because my Father has one, and I'd like to "keep it in the Family". But depending on cost (I can only do 30,000. Maybe 31,000 if I strech it.), I would take whatever is the Top. Z28 SS or just the Z28, I know I'll have one of them, which one? I'll have to wait to see what GM will possibly release at NAIAS; If it's true that the Production stage is starting, I should hope they know by know what engines are being put into the thing.

The old Z28s were severely underrated in their power. They made far, far more than 290hp

I'm sure they did. Let's hope this new Camaro makes far, far more then 430 hp.

I agree, that "merely" remark was meant to be sarcastic in reference to some of the threads that have discussed the DZ302 vs other engines. Having owned a 69 Z/28 when it was new, I'm well aware of what they were.

Ah, with all those remarks about the Z's old power rating I wasn't quite sure. Sure figured that if you had a 69 Z, you could tell by seat of your pants alone
