Probably the best filter is the ZL1 filter - AC/Delco UltraGuard UPF48R. You can get them from a site sponsor (search) or EBay (or your dealership is money is no object for you). I think the last ones I bought were $12 each (shipped) on EBay...
You'll never get a consensus on oil. I use Mobil 1 because its the factory fill and its cheap (around $4.25/qt from Walmart)

We did the first at 500, will do another this weekend at 1,500, and then get on schedule at 5,000 - 10,000 - 15,000 etc... Every 5,000, since we use Mobil 1.

I used 6 quarts of Mobil 1 full syn. oil plus wix filter - usually on sale at O'Reilly auto parts.
A tip to self oil changers: push the replacement filter into the cover first, then screw it onto the bottom enclosure. I didn't need my wix gasket, existing blue gasket worked fine. Also, I installed a Mike Norris catch can 6 mos. ago at about 500 miles. I changed my oil for the 1st time yesterday at 6712 miles and drained about a half of coffee cup of oil from my catch can - glad I put it in soon. |

Pep-Boys usually has the Royal Purple package (filter and 5 qts high performance synthetic oil) for $49.00. Granted, the LS-3 takes 8 qts. The entire oil change will cost you about $76.00. I changed all my fluids (oil, trans, diff) to Royal Purple, total cost $180.00 and completely worth it.
