I have a QTEC in my Borla CB and it's great. The only thing I've had happen is the motor takes a little longer to open and close after about four years of use. People have complained on other forums about the quality of these cutouts, but I haven't had a problem with my more than I just posted. I've always been careful to not hold the switch open or closed longer than it takes to open or close the valve, and haven't had motor problems.

I'll be considering these or the ones posted a couple posts ago for my car.

I have been around alot of Camaro's with QTP cutouts and I have over all not been impressed with the quality. Granted this has been about two years ago, but I had a friend that made the switch to these on his Vette and loved the quality and the warranty was also very nice. They have something like a 4 year warranty and they open a whole lot faster than the QTPs.

Thats a scarey place to dump your exhaust...usually if you dump it before the rear axle tub you end up making a negative pressure zone that gets the monoxide into the interior. At the least your eyes start to water. And at the worst....

Yeah, I was going to ask about that. Where would you locate these and have the exhaust dump out to?

I like the idea of flipping a switch and getting an awesome roar from the exhaust, but I'm curious how you guys would set it up...

I have these on my stock ls1. Since it still has cats it still just sounds like a loud muffler, not really open pipes, still relatively quiet while just crusing, i leave the cutout open all the time. It is dumped right before the rear axle and ive never had any problems with smell or fumes. I love having a cutout, its just a manual one but it sounds like a loudmouth exhaust but only cost me $30 from summit, and about 30 min to put it in myself.

Never had an issue with that and I have been in the car for very long periods of time with them open. My eyes never water except in exuberant joy when I hear the rumble of the 440.

You would have to have some serious negative pressure to force the exhaust gases up into the cabin at that point. I have seen countless cutouts that dump in various areas under the car with no issues of exhaust poisoning. You also have to be reasonable and expect that any time someone opens them for any length of time they are more than likely going to also have their windows down as well.

Daniel,

Thanks for the inquiry. Obviously I can’t speak for the Camaro yet. What I can tell you is the boss’ wife has a Tahoe with AFM and our equipment and we’re not seeing any issues with it.

The AFM seems to be very particular though and it’s rare our Tahoe uses it in the first place but when it IS on, we haven’t seen anything that we consider to be a problem with the cutouts

Or our headers.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Take Care,

Andy Archer

The QTP's sound nice but have issues with leaks fairly often. I wouldn't install them on my car I would just spend the money on a catback that sounded good.

Mine dump right off the headers (in the Y-Pipe) and I have yet to have any of the problems you speak of.
