ALL ELECTRIC CAMARO??

In the past five years several auto makers have released all electric vehicles to customers for a short term trial. TESLA motor company in California is leading the way in all electric vehicle production with a all electric sports car and a new upcoming sedan in 2010. I was curious, if Chevrolet offered a all electric Camaro with a 300 mile range for under $35,000 would any buy one? Or do you still want the growl of the gas hungry big V8 like me?

We're all stars in the dope show.

I could buy one for 30k, not above.

But we've seen this before, talk about actual production model electric vehicles, and they have yet to make it to production, be practical, and be supported by their company.

The Volt concept car looked a little bit like a Camaro. It will be a number of years before it could be brought in for under $35,000. The battery alone currently costs $10,000.

No, but there soon will be for an electric sportscar. Hopefully an electric Camaro will be there to meed that demand. But of course there will still be the V8!

The Camaro is too heavy to make an electric car with any kind of range. Not putting it down or anything, it's just a fact. And it would cost way more than $35k like the others said.

Well of course the Camaro could be substantially lighter if lighter parts were put into it (I am by no means saying that this should of been done, I think GM found a perfect blend of weight and cost of parts for the Camaro) and therefore would make a fine electric car (granted probably not too fun to drive on all but a very powerful electric motor. But of course both of these factors would result in extremely high prices, which is why this should not happen for severa years. But by say 2015 we will see this coming into focus, since the demand will be there, as will cheaper parts.

The tesla roadster costs $100 000 and performs best under 50 mph. Its a gimmick, people will be buying it because its electric, not because its fast. Besides, I'd like to know the life cycle environmental impact before I consider it greener than say . . . buying a Viper and planting a few trees.
