I went manual because of the fun factor. Cars with torque are much easier to drive with a manual than cars with low torque 4 and 6 cylinders. Plus I think the new trans in the Camaro will be much smoother than previous generations. I can't wait to row through the gears.

Manual - Know what gear it will be in, as you roll the throttle on hard coming out of the turn.

Auto - Duh, huh, what gear should I choose?, duh, oh, how about this one, no, shift, slush, turn exit aborted.

Paddle shifters - huh? .... oh, ok. Torque converter loss still present. Not able to set chassis attitude crisply with proper throttle application.

Test drive both and see.

I went with the stick for several reasons:

1) I didnt want the active fuel mangmnt

2) I plan on bumping up the HP significantly and the TR6060 will take alot more than that AT (just need a clutch. lol)

3) A stick rates much higher on the "fun meter" and this is NOT a DD for me

4) I like being in the gear I choose ... not the one the PCM thinks I should be in.

I'm going to go with a Stick for three reasons:

1) I've driven, but never owned one before. I liked it just a touch more than the automatic. The auto still appeals to me for it's stomp-and-go characteristic. It's like a rocket. ...and this car will be a pleasure-driving keeper (like 'till I die! )

2) Cost; Every penny I don't need to spend puts my one step closer to the SS ()

3) The Wow-factor (NOT fun-factor). Manuals are rare nowadays (in the US), and it's just a little neater, imo, to see an H-pattern shifter on the floor than the usual PRND.

Neither will be remarkably faster than the other, and the fuel mileage difference is even less notable. So it's alllllll preference!

Actually, the auto gets better mileage due to active fuel management

Ok, so put the auto into manual mode and it will stay in the gear you put it in.

I told her just hit the gass and let out the cluch the camaro will go.

But went with the L99 with paddle shifters. I have HP tuner so this will let me tweek the Motor & Trans to my liking.

I also need to waite for some one to come out with a FI kit for the camaro & L99 Should not be long.

You forgot

Manual - oh, know? I just missed third gear and over revved the engine. . Oh no! I just down shifted into the wrong gear and hit fuel cut off. I know I hurt the engine on that one.

Just playing around, but missing gears (especially in race situations) is quite common with a stick.

I've seen quite a few guys miss gears at the track. And occasionally you see a big cloud of smoke to go with it (blown head gasket?).

like DG said, the AFM, 6 gears, and 3:27 rear make the auto better on gas this time

from what people have said, you barely notice it

4) I like being in the gear I choose ... not the one the PCM thinks I should be in.
that's what the 'M' is for. the only time the PCM will override your shifts is if you're gonna over-rev the engine.

that's one of the risks of driving stick anyway. i recommend just always being really conscious of how the gearbox feels every time you shift. even in driving around town, i've not paid attention & hit the wrong gear in my truck & it didn't like me at all! that sure won't deter me from getting my M6 1SS!

My other two crossover SUV's have an automatic. Getting a manual tranny for this. also, it's not going to be my DD.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like I'm more a part of the car when I'm shifting gears.

Automatic. I have a bad left hip from my time in the U.S. Navy and the doctors have said if I do not do anything to cause excessive wear on it , this will be for the better, if I do not follow their advice they will need to do a left hip replacement, this is something I woild really like to advoid.

I'm in the same boat as you. If I drive manual and use the clutch too many times my left leg locks right up. Dislocated my left leg and had it put back in with screws.

Autos are way better than they used to be these days. I would argue that an auto will let you do get away with a lot more, I'm a big fan of stomp and go. Powerglides are still ran on drag cars too, those are what 55 year old transmissions.

Different strokes for different folks.
