In my 2010, manual mode limits but does not completely eliminate AFM.

It seems like I don't get AFM unless I get up to 55 or 60 mph and hold steady for a few seconds.

Whereas in drive, I've had AMF kick in at rediculously low speeds like 15 mph!

I have heard people saying it does not kick in when using the tapshift feature, my experience(and I use tapshift 99.9% of the time) is that it still activates however because of when using tapshift you usually hold rpm's higher than the computer does it does not activate as much but it's still there.

This is NOT TRUE... AFM is active all the time no matter what mode (D or M) or what gear you are in. This includes tap shift.

If you use tap shift you can keep RPMs up and reduce the amount of time you are inside the threshold of AFM activation.

Once you tune, AFM can be turned off or on in any gear or mode individually. I had mine turned on in 5th and 6th gear only in D so I could take advantage on the highway, but if I was in S it was totally off.

This is because you have a Manual trans and do not have AFM...

Interesting thread. I understand what you are saying, but I was very careful to compare auto modes (D & S) to M mode in the same gear, speed, situation, even the same stretch of road. Multiple times. And AFM drone was always very audible in D & S modes and not present in M mode.

I can't explain the different experiences posted by yourself and others, except to speculate that AFM drone and exhaust drone are being intertwined. Interestingly, I'm running a Corsa Cat-Back which is well known for zero exhaust drone. Perhaps that is the reason AFM drone was so easy to recognize.

However, it is no longer an issue for me because I have since had it tuned out. Best mod I've done!

I have Corsa also so that means there is no exhaust drone to confuse w/ AFM growl (as I like to call it).

Your methods are the best way to keep AFM from activiting since shift points, RPMs etc are different or more aggressive in Sport Mode, but the parameters around when AFM comes on is exactly the same in either mode. I tried tuning different ways on two different cars and finally did like you and just turned if off altogether.

Now I've totally done the LS3 conversion and couldn't be happier...
