You certainly can use cruise control for short spans. That said, I wouldn't set it at 65 for 300 miles. The best advice I received from a reputable engine builder is use moderation during the first 1,500 miles. Drive hard, drive easy and vary your speeds as much as you can. Using this logic, I've never had a problem with a motor setting up correctly during break in nor have I had the rings go bad/oil burning.

1. Read the manual.
2. Ignore the break in part and drive it like ya stole it.
3. Spend time reading this forum. Tons of good info here.

I'm firmly in the hard break in camp. Just be sure it's warmed up good before you stand on it and let off of it occasionally. Most important thing is don't run at the same rpm for long periods.

Oh yea, changing the oil at about 500 to 700 miles is a good idea too. My dealer thought I was crazy when I took mine in for it's first oil change at 700.

As others have already said, serious modding is just dependant on when you feel comfortable about voiding your warranty. My powertrain warranty has been gone since about 1200 miles.

Most importantly, have fun and be safe. You're gonna love it.

Hard acceleration is good, engine deceleration is bad... Drive it hard, feel free to jump on her, but do not decelerate on the engine... It sounds cool, but in the first 1000-1500 miles, it's bad for the rings... Don't downshift to slow...that's what brakes are for...

And Amen on the oil change at 700 or so miles...

I disagree. So does Motoman.

That's how I played it.

Then you didn't follow his break in procedure.

The best method is to alternate between short bursts of hard acceleration and deceleration.

The racetrack is the perfect environment to break in an engine !! The combination of acceleration and deceleration is just the ticket for sealing the rings.

Plus the owner's manual says since the transmission is a sealed gearbox the trans fluid doesn't need to be replaced.

That's because he needs someone to read it to him.
Owner's manual=knowledge.

Seriously though, there was a good break-in thread here not too long ago. Search function works wonders.
Welcome and congrats on your wise purchase! Some say break it in hard, while some say don't break it in hard. It's up to you to figure out what you think is best in your situation, and why.

<<My opinion begins>>
I think with modern engines, you don't really need to break it in. That being said, if it doesn't matter one way or the other I chose to break it in hard since you can't really hurt it. <<My opinion ends>>
Only time will tell whether I did the right thing or not.

Many times when I see a post about an engine problem, brake problem..exc, i ask what break in procedure was used and I have yet to get one answer.
I wonder why?
I have ALWAYS used the method outlined in the owners manual and have yet to have one brake, driveline or Engine problem.

Do we need a man card ruling here?
