Wrong, OP needs to attach the assigned plates now and switch when the ELP plates arrive. Here's the law.
5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the department for
use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which
they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.
(b) When only one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle,
it shall be attached to the rear thereof, unless the license plate is
issued for use upon a truck tractor, in which case the license plate
shall be displayed in accordance with Section 4850.5.

I still have my dealer sticker in the window and the rear plate aswell.
I know i didn't have a choice in what was sent but damn....
Whats wrong with them? Don't your temporary tags have an expiration date, ours here are only good for 30 Days and as soon as you get your permanent tags you have to put them on. it also takes 6 to 12 weeks to get Vanity plates. and that is after you get your first set of plates that you have to turn in at the time you pick up the Vanity ones.

Ditto in Massachusetts. You can't drive without permanent plates, and the dealers have them. You can get vanity plates later.

Personally, I don't understand plate phobia, including people's refusal to put on their front plates. It's a car, it needs plates (unless it's a show car that lives in a trailer).

Maybe because front plates often ruin the look of a nice car? And the need for a front plate is highly debatable IMO. Pretty much useless IMO.

I believe the State Police are the main reason why Maryland continues to require front plates. If it wasn't for that (Law enforcement), I'm sure the state would have dropped it and saved alot of money by now.

Damn how the hell does it take 3 months to make a plate? If this was in the private sector that company would be out of business. I too am waiting for my new plates. It's been a week over a month and I thought it was longer than normal. 8 years ago when I bought my previous car, the plates came in 1 month. I was going to call DMV to see wtf is going on. But if this is the case, I'll let it ride.

Ohio has some of the ugliest plates you will see on the road. Check out the "party plates" you get if you are convicted of a DUI.

I think that they will really match well and look really sweet!!!
Yeah, I like those. I wanted the ones with the black numbers, but they have been discontinued. Seems the photo radar couldn't make out the numbers when they were black, and the cities couldn't make any money off them, so they got the state to change to white numbers. Sucks when Redflex, which runs the photo radar, dictates to the state.

I live in the state with the ugliest plates ever created. This iss what mine will look like if they ever show up -

Also, in Nebraska you leave the dealership with temporary tags, then in about 30 days or so you go to the courthouse and get your registration and permanent plates. They give you your plates on the spot. If you want personalized plates, you order them after you've got your plates. Takes them about 4-6 weeks to come in. I've been harassing them early though because some friends of mine said theirs came in early.
I might get lucky too.

They don't say drunk but they are yellow with red letters. I just found that image and got a good laugh out of it. I don't know if it is to shame the car's owner or just draw more attention from the police.
