All the online selling sites are full of scams.
Anything - overseas, Western Union, email/text only refuse to meet or talk on the phone... it's all scams. Especially on Ebay/Craigslist/Auto Trader. You may think you're dealing with someone with a great rating, it's just a crook that stole someone's ID with a great rating. For big ticket items like cars - only deal with people who will talk live and come in person to look at the car. All those - I want it now and will send you the money are scam artists sitting in some shit hole over in Africa just sending out tons of emails/texts fishing for a sucker. |

As for cash, I would take it to a bank and have them scan it for counterfeit bills. |

Very common scam, they used to do the same thing with checks.

OP, I put my car on craigslist before and I received non-stop phone calls by a company (who even went out of their way to make a pretty website) who sells cars for you. The catch is, it's 500 bucks for them to list the car but they will sell it for the price you put on it within 90 days. If it does not sell in 90 days they will refund you the 500 bucks...In other words, their long gone by the 90 day period and you ain't seeing shit for that money.

Yeah don't trust it. I only trust straight up phone calls and in person payment. |

Don't even do that, get in your Camaro and Drive Away as fast as you can.
Yeah, you have to be careful on Craig's List. We've had good luck and skepticism with that site. My parents sold the oven they had before they remodeled their kitchen (wanted a bigger one after the remodel) and that worked out OK, the guy and his wife came from out of state and picked it up. Then, when trying to sell their Piano, someone tried the trick of saying they would pay more than the asking price to have it shipped to them, and wouldn't respond to any more correspondence, that was a no brainer to do this to --> ![]() Trust how you feel and don't sell it that way on Craig's List. You can meet good people on there, as long as the circumstances are right. Maybe try out eBay Automotive. Good Luck.

Man, that sucks. I litterally work in Angola. I'm here right now. Anyone want to sell me a car?? JK. But even so, yea I would say local pickup. If the guy really wants it, when he get's back he can drive to you. In any situation like this you ask specific questions and you can get a better judge of caracter. Actual phone calls help. But I guess I've learned something. When buying something, don't tell them where I work, LOL

Accent on CLEARS. There is a separate scam where "international" people will buy your item, knowing it takes 2-3 WEEKS for an international cashier's check to clear. By the time your bank finds out the cashier's check was stolen/fake, it's too late. Be especially cautious if they send you a cashier's check for more than the selling price and ask you to refund the difference. For the original question, even with Paypal you can get screwed. Don't do it. |
