I think ZF is one of the German transmission producer that make trannies for BMW, Ford, and a few other manufactures...

They have a 8-speed system that's suppose to boost some HP and MPG compared to most 6-speed system, they also have a 9-speed system but don't think that one is in production yet.

You're absolutly right! ZF is based out of Friedrichshafen Germany . They do offer 8 and 9 speed automatic transmissions which supposedly boost fuel economy due to less weight and drag...

check out the webpage/video http://www.zf.com/corporate/en/produ...nsmission.html

P.S. up to 1000Nm (738ft lbs of torque)
P.P.S. The Volt already uses ZF transmission technology

I can't read any German but I saw 6HP, 8HP, 11%, and 200 millisecond
lol

If Volt is already using ZF stuff than it's a good sign, and I'm sure some of the ZF trannies will be able to handle ZL1's torque, so now it's all up to GM on using it in the ZL1 or not

CTS-V LSA same HP at crank for A6 & M6. A6 a tad quicker 0-60 and in 1/4 mile. I see no reason for ZL1 LSA to be any different.

I don't think it's transmission tech. ZF press releases indicate Chevy sourced the servo motors for the Volt's power steering system.

Historically, Traditionally...auto transmissions are done by GM in-house. They invented them, after all - it's their 'thing'. I would be VERY surprised if they outsource an auto transmission on a wide-scale basis....

Ah, you cant sneak anything past these guys! Here's whats on ZFs webpage:

Quote:
Introducing the Chevrolet Volt. With this model, Chevrolet is testing the waters with its first electric car. Getting as much range as possible with a battery-operated vehicle requires an iron will when it comes to savings. That’s where the electric servo steering Servolectric made by ZF Steering Systems comes in. It uses around 0.4 l less fuel than a hydraulic system because it only requires energy when the car is being steered. But that’s not the only place where the Volt “pinches pounds”: lightweight components from ZF help keep the vehicle as light as possible.
It is indeed the servos amongst other things... Does the Volt even have a transmission or is it like the Tesla where you just have 1 gear?

--> Will the Camaro use the ZF servos as well since it comes with an electric steering system in lieu of the hydraulic one?

It's very difficult to explain. It does...yet it doesn't. It really depends on which of the distinct driving modes the car is in. I found this article was a pretty good explanation:

http://www.automobilemag.com/green/n...ropulsion.html

As for the ZL1's EPS and ZF.......now there's a good question!
