I've got a V6 so the mail slot isn't an issue for me, but I get what you're saying. I thought about getting the V8 fascia, but I'll just stick with the V6 one and possibly get T2 ports down the road. Going for cosmetic mods first as there aren't many Camaros where I live then CAI and probably drop springs, not much else really. Fast enough and it's my DD.

Did Eric paint your hood? He told me they didn't offer painted, but I've seen posts of him painting them... not sure if he just doesn't do it anymore or what.

never buy a painted hood...always test fit hood 1st on car , then hood needs blocked and sealed...then painted to match..if its off then you can bitch local to your bodyshop and make them redo it...most paints have a variable thru there paint codes ...iom has 3 variables in there paint code, mine is the reddest of the 3...and it is def obvious..not sure about other hoods , but mpd is also a functioning ram air to the cai, some hoods just have holes inside hood so air goes to motor and not necessary routed back to airbox,,{ ram air}

Thanks for this information. EXTREMELY helpful. Makes perfect sense on why he wouldn't paint it. My car is black so hopefully it won't be too much trouble matching it up with color codes.

No he didnt paint my hood. What the above poster said is correct. I think he will only paint if the buyer actually brings their car to him.

black is def the easiest color of all to paint, but shows up the most when they wet sand it and buff it out..you will see swirls....a good detail person will get the swirls out...most body shops buff with 1500 to 2000 grit...a good detailer will use 3000 and get it sweet

I like the sinister, the cowl isnt too high, it just barley enough to notice, matches the body lines just right without overdoing it... if you want sleek and sexy go sinister, if you want inyour face bad arse ram air go mpd1

A major difference i see in the two hood is that the mpd1 has bigger opening and the cowl in the middle is flat. The sinister hood opening is further back and is more of a round shape. Either hood is better than stock but like tmac1granger33 get the mpd1 for more badassness lol

That's what I was thinking MPD definitely looks meaner. My cousin works at a detail shop and quoted me about $350 to paint it, so I think I'm just gonna let him do it cause I know he does good work.

Will probably sell my stock hood to get some money for the paint job.

I know the Sinister hood is cheaper ($750 compared to $880 for MPD).

MPD said they can take installments on the price, which helps out a lot for me, not sure if the Sinister hood vendors have that option.

Vendors/Owners chime in?
After seeing a Sinister hood at the Hare Chevy meet I got to see the differences. I will start with design. The Sinister hood is of course a little taller than OE at the back. This makes the hood very wedge shaped. Ok for the original hood height but starts looking not so right as it gets taller. The "Z Force" carries the height of the cowl parallel to the lower surface before it slops down to the nose. This gives the "Z Force" a more retro look and also more aggressive. Next the intake opening. The Sinister appears to have the original hood about 6 inches back from the front edge. Then all the sudden you have a line and a flat surface leading into the opening that is basically straight across. The "Z Force, the original hood is recessed down so you have a nice sloped "ramp' that leads into an opening that matches the leading edge of the hood and the shape of the front of the Camaro. "Z Force" grill is recessed back with no fasteners visible. Sinister, just a pc of mesh screwed to a flat ledge with all edges showing. The "Z Force", the rear of the hood has a nice "flip" to the back edge that carries the fender line and blends into the back of the scoop.

Construction. The main thing I noticed was the Sinister had the typical aftermarket hood "fat edges. The "Z Force", the edges are beveled so that it appears to be a metal hood once painted. I don't remember if the Sinister had mesh in the heat extractor openings in the rear or not. The "Z Force' has mesh bonded in. I also comes with wiper nozzle tubing routed inside the hood for a very clean looking install of the washer nozzles. I can also tell you our intake has a water drainage system in place for the ram air. The ram air system is also very big allowing for lots of cool air to reach your CAI. The sinister has a very small maybe 2 inches, hole for your intake. The Sinister, didn't see any drainage holes. The "Z F orce" has 12- 5/16 holes specifically for the inside of the hood to drain and breath. The "Z Force" bonded with OEM spec structural adhesives. There is also bonding done throughout the middle of the hood making for a very strong enginnered unit. Typically cheaper hoods use a fiberglass slurry of gelcoat, resin and micro-bubbles for a thickener to bond the edges together. They also tend to use "nutserts" for the hinges and strut attachment points. The "Z F orce" has metal plates with 8 mm nuts welded to them that are then bonded and or riveted in place. I do feel the Sinister has a good latch as does our hood. Sinister, bolted in with four bolts. "Z Force' riveted with 6 large flange steel rivets modeled after the way the OEM WS6 Trans Am hoods were constructed.

Other details.

The "Z Force" has a water drainage system in place for the CAI

The CAI passageway is sealed and dedicated to intake air only.

All openings or areas where you can see inside the hood are epoxy primed black so if your painter takes the time to mask them off you will have a much cleaner "blacked out" look.

All hardware and mesh is heavily epoxy primed to prevent corrosion and rust stains from bleeding out the drainage holes.

Proper hex head body bolts with attached washers are inc to mount the hood. This replaces the stud and nut arrangement necessary for a OE aluminum hood.

Additional other structural members are added to the inside of the hood so there are zero spots on the hood skin that "give".

I feel our "Z Force " hood is vastly superior in design and construction and has a lot of details that you wont find on any other hoods in any price range. I know it comes down to personal preference and budget. As I like to say "quality is not expensive, its priceless"

Definitely going with the MPD hood now. Pretty awesome!

Is $350 a good price to paint the hood black?
