Lots of radar here on the left coast. CHP generally leave there mounted radars running and my detector becomes a CHP detector, works great. Mine has saved me numerous times.
I've heard lots of good about the V1's. I have an Escort 8500 that works great!

V1, none better & if you do more research through consumer reports you'll see that as well.
I have mine built into my rearview mirror

Depends on where you drive. If its primarily highway driving, get the Valentine1, if its city, get a passport 9500i or something close to it.

Passport and V1.. cannot go wrong with either. I think the passport will save you more money...

Just fair warning, most cops will be more inclined to cite if they see the stand, wiring, or the detector. Don't shoot the messager.

I currently have the V1 and I am very happy with it, just absolutely love it. The directional arrows and bogey count can't be beat, it will save you and I know first hand.

I had the Passport 9500ix and I loved the fact that it learned and silenced the false signal along with the GPS Settings...awesome detector BUT I like the V1 better and it is less expensive.

V1 has my vote of confidence.

Passport 9500i (before the X, basically the same). Have one in both my cars and like others have stated, having the ability to lock out signals comes in handy, especially around town, but also with tollbooths that have radars to advise you that you are going too fast through the toll. After you program all the interference signals, your trips are pretty quiet except for when it spots a bogey and I can tell you it has some great range. I'm sure the Valentine is awesome too, just a matter of preference.

Also worth getting a hard wire kit to the rearview; they do tend to mess with you for the cord hanging, at least here in NJ where everything is a "No, No".

In my opinion the Escort Passport IQ is the best you can get. Just about the best detecting ability plus GPS and downloadable red-light camera locations and speed traps.

That said I have a beltronics vector 955. It doesn't have GPS and therefore can't have the trap locations either. But it has 95% of the detecting ability of the Passport IQ and the V1 while costing 1/4 as much.
