Does anyone know if radar detectors will notice the new Photo-Speed cameras Maryland is now using? When shopping, is there a specific feature I should be looking for? I've read that some have some sort of GPS-related mark you can place when you've found one, but around me they keep moving around.

I dont think they pick them up because I think the new photo vehicles go by motion sensors and if you over it activates the camera to snap your rear plates....

Yeah, they will not pick them up. Though one of the new detectors is equipped with GPS and has geo locations of installed cameras (that have been released to the public at least) and it will alert when you are going to approach one. Has red light camera locations as well...though, if you run red lights, you deserve what you get....and hopefully for your car, it isn't a T-Bone.

There is also an iPhone app (Trapster) I believe, which is kind of the same thing; but also lets users report police "hiding spots".

Get the valentine 1 best radar detector out there for the money..

Get that spray that you spray oon the plate ...cant tell its even there. I have it on my GTO. It works for the radar speed cameras and redlight.

Yup thats is. It works pretty well i just got it a few days ago...So far so good.

That was proven on mythbusters not to work even a little. Haha you've been flying without a parachute this whole time. And FYI Valentine 1 was the best for the last few years; I can slowly start to see it become obsolete, though, I would bet anything they simply upgrade firmware and a couple other features like I mentioned above, and will remain number 1 for another 10 years. Do you know if you can update those on the fly or you have to by a whole new one each time an updated version is released?

Not sure about the udate on the fly. as for the spray i know its worked. My i forgot my easy pass in the other car and didnt realize it until i was going through, buzzer went off and i never got the ticket.

I got a v1 but I think its not working right, last couple its beeped once for a redlight camera. Im gonna put two in the car to see if one working better then the other.

Get the Escort Passport 9500ix - It has GPS that alerts you when you are in a "known" locacation for speed cameras and red light cameras as well as the standard radar detection. Its preloaded with locations but as new locations become available you have to download them into it via a USB cable. The yearly subscription is only $20 (or 3 years is $30) and they come out with monthly to bi-monthly updates.

I saw that Mythbusters too. You might have just gotten lucky. It was in the papers a while back that most of the camera boxes were empty and they moved the working cameras around. The reason for the story was that they were finally moving to install cameras in more/all of the boxes, so the camera bluff might not be a bluff anymore.

Nah, they look at your plate before sending the ticket. Which is why they ask for vehicle information in the first place. It's all automated. Once you go through, it takes the picture, looks up the plate number, if it sees an account already registered, it automatically deducts the price of the toll, even if you have a zero balance, it will let you go in the hole. If you recall the exact date, check the transaction log; I bet you see the deduction.

I rarely carry my ezpass either. I freaked out the first time cause I didn't want a fine for a $2 toll, so I called them. That's what they told me. So now I never worry about it. I think I'm in the hole $20 or so hahaha.
