Stock filters are underrated. They flow great and many times filter better than aftermarket filters(dry). Afe makes the best dry filters other than stock.

It will pay for itself eventually, add more horsepower and torque, and sounds a lot better. I got a cold air induction on mine. I drive it hard sometimes, sometimes I dont, same driving pattern as before (other than the first week or two when I put it through hell because I loved the new performance). I get at least 1mpg more, and I want to say 1.5, and thats driving it in the arizona heat. Im sure if it was winter when I had the stock id be in the 1.5-2 range.
So it basically pays for itself eventually if you can contain your animalistic temptation to drive it like you stole it more than half the time. If you got the money now, may as well splurge and if you really want your car to sound badass, get an aftermarket exhaust, mines from MRT. I love the sound and performance I have with just a v6, its pretty much a v8 junior without dropping the addition 8-10k in getting an SS, plus the extra money in gas and insurance. |

How does a open air filter add to the sound if it's not supercharged? Yea, on my Lightning there's a big difference in the loudness of the supercharger with the cold air vs the stock closed box/paper filter, but I don't understand what the difference in sound could be on a naturally aspirated motor?

Metal = louder engine sound Open = more "sucking" sound. Its hard to hear a big difference unless the car has a very quiet stock exhaust. |

Just install a Roto-Fab CAI, they make one of the Best for the 5th Gen Camaro and have one for all of the engines used, LS3, L99, LLT, and the LFX. Go Roto-Fab and you will not be sorry.

I've got the Vararam... you can hear and feel the difference, but my gas mileage did drop slightly. Totally worth it though...

Mine is the CAI brand ( Cold Air Inductions ) You will hear the intake sound more, if your exhaust isn't too loud. To install get the four tools you will need and give yourself 10 -15 minutes to get it done. I'm not to worried about MPG, I average about 28 - 29 mpg when I drive "normal". My un-normal includes a 100 shot of nitrous, so I may not be your best feedback. What ever decision you make welcome to the GEN5 world and enjoy your car.

I got a CAI on mine, deffinitly worth it..the sound goes from mehh...to wow..instantly and after a few days you will see a slight change in mpg.and as far as horse power the gains are very subtle..but your car will sound like a beast...It adds about 200 psychological HP....
