I wave, its not just a Jeep thing or a Harley thing. I got some flack from a couple guys at work when we were talking about this. They laughed and said "I drive an F150, I dont wave to every truck". I guess its more appropriate on nice days when out cruising? Not on the every day drive back and forth to work.... at any rate, I still wave.

If you're in a Camaro, wouldn't that make it a Camaro wave??

"Jeep Wave" is part of the religion of Jeep... and self- explanatory to those of us who are observers only. And, with Jeepers holding the patent, I'm okay with 5th gen acknowledgements being called Jeep Waves.
Indeed, the Jeep Wave is practiced by the faithful on the west coast. Not all are true believers... Heathens, if you will. I wave to all 5th Gens, but really get about a 30% - 40% return. About 20% give a "who- the- hell- are- you?" look with a weak half- wave... and the remainder don't even look. I suspect the latter group just sees the Camaro as "car." Like every other 3000 to 8000 lb. thing with four wheels on it, just "car." However, there is a connection when a fellow 5th gen pilot initiates (or reciprocates) the Jeep Wave. My guess is that lots of them are C5.commers, but even if not, it's the unspoken acknowledgement that I respect your taste, style, and choices... and that you respect mine. We are brothers and sisters. |

I'd never heard of "The Jeep wave" before this post, and didn't know what Jeepers did that... I was aware of Harley guys doing it as I have followed my Dad on his bike on several occasions as he waved at every passing motorcycle that appeard to be a cruiser/harley bike, lol
I used to wave at other Camaros at first but no one ever waived back, so I gave up... On a very rare occasion I will get a wave and wave back here and there. Last edited by Jason@JacFab; 05-30-2012 at 12:17 PM. |

Jeeps, corvettes and bikes commonly wave. It's just an acknowledgement.
I never waved in the Camaro. Plus, news flash, most pre 5th owners won't acknowledge you because the don't like the 5th. Mostly bc of the owners self righteousness and feeling of entitlement and that they are somehow superior bc they own a 5th gen. Not all fit the mold, but most do. Just read around the forum, lots of worthy crap.

Jeep owners have a thing where they wave at each other while passing. Mainly the Wrangler guys. As stated before, it originally started with motorcyclists. Most of us who have been enthusiasts for years know this from seeing and noticing it. There was a time when every person who bought a Wrangler (even at used lots) were told to wave at passing Wranglers.

No, I don't Jeep Wave. I'm in a Camaro, so why would I wave at a Jeep?
And any Jeep Wave is not "owned" by the Jeepsters, waving originated among motorists back in the late 1800s, when early motorists used only hand signals and another horseless carriage was unique to pass by. And before that, people in buggys or on horseback waved at each other too. So WTH, Jeep Wave was the beginning of nothing...
