I bought a set of new wheels and got them installed at discount tires for $850, so no, I donīt think 500 is a good deal for just painting them.

Powdercoating is not painting. It is much stronger than paint and resistant to damage. There is a lot of prep involved. Also, most inexpensive aftermarket wheels weigh more than the stock wheels which impacts acceleration.

To each his/her own.

The "dip" looks good. I just want to know how it holds up and what type of wheel prep are people doing before they just spray it on.

Well, my wheels weighs the same as stock, so no changes there.
And I had no idea about powdercoating vs paint, so thanks for clearing that up.

i say plastic dip , that's what i did with the intention of getting an idea of what it would look like before committing to powder coat.. but its been holding up so well that ive just been spending my money on suspension parts...lol a better investment IMO. i got mine at home depot for around 5 $s a can.

the only prep i did was washing them really well with soap and water. making sure they are COMPLETELY dry (very important lol ) had to redo my friends mustang cause of a little water in the lug nut area that we missed... the good that came from that is we got some first hand experience in peeling it off. very simple once its started pretty much peels off in one big piece if you go slow enough.. going on 6 months now. still looking good. id redo it as needed for the price difference personally..

i think u can buy black replica wheels for 165 buck each, from tire rack , or discount tire free shipping , so 500 for powdercoat is kinda hi i think. u will have a extra set of rims. i bought a powdercoat system myself its, easy to do , i made me a oven out of a 55 gallon barrel and got the heating element out of a oven . works great for 20 rims my buddy made a oven out of a 30 in drain the same way. the system costed me about 250 bucks for a duel system and u will only need about 8 lbs of air presser to use it. just a few thoughts for u . i plasti dipped my wheels , i liked the fact that i can take it off later if i want to run polished .
