you need to be in numbered gear mode. it still comes on if you are in "sport" (gear shift in "M") mode and have not used the paddles to manually shift the gears. as long as you are allowing the computer to shift the gears in D or M then AFM will be active.

My 2011 1SS vibrates and rattles a lot. I brought it to the dealer and they blamed it on the AFM. They printed a Chevy bulletin for me where it states that AFM can be temporarily disabled by shifting from park to M, then using the paddles to downshift to 1 and then after accelerating for a few seconds shifting to 2. After that AFM should be disabled until you shift back to anything other than M.
To me is hard to say if this actually does anything because shifting manually makes the car behave completely different than driving it on automatic mode weather I do the steps above or not. |

I was trying to think of a way to say what you said. If you are using the paddles to shift, AFM is OFF

You can move the gear selector to 'M', which is sport mode. You can drive all day long in that mode. The second you use the paddles, it more or less becomes a manual shift car, without the clutch. At this point AFM is de-activated.

So, I put it in "M" and I start using the paddles... no AFM. If I stop using the paddles the AFM would kick in?
What if I'm on the highway and don't have a need to shift? Will the AFM kick in? |

yeah what he said.. basically there are 3 modes. Drive, gear shift in "D" to wit the computer tries to shove the car into 6th and turn on AFM as fast as possible for the best MPG Sport, which is the gear shift in Manual "M", which is basically the same thing as drive, except if the computer detects that you are accelerating aggressively it will adjust itself allowing for better acceleration and higher RPMs before shifting.. It reacts faster than "D", holds the gears longer, and delays activating AFM until it determines the aggressive behavior is over. Manual, aka "tap-shift" gear shift in "M" and you tap a paddle which then puts the car into a user controlled manual shift mode, the car will not upshift without you tapping the paddle, it will downshift to "2" when you are at a complete stop. But upshifting, it will not, it will just bounce off the rev limiter until you shift. when in "tap-shift" mode (numbered gear mode) AFM will not engage ever. So if you are cruising in "6" in tap-shift mode, no AFM where if you press and hold the upshift and put it back into "S" then yes AFM will engage.

Ok, I gotcha!
What if I dont use the paddles to downshift? Will it just go back into regular "M" mode until I upshift again? |

I think I'm in the minority but AFM doesn't bother me. I don't really feel it when driving and I don't mind getting a few extra MPGs from it.

It will just stay in the last gear you were in until you shift accordingly.

The car will not auto-upshift in manual mode though. It will let you hit the rev-limiter.
