Can You Really Turn Off AFM?

Is it true that you can turn off AFM by shifting into M and then paddle shifting to 2nd, 1st, then 2nd?? It supposedly turns it off until its shifted back into drive?

I searched but opinions differ on it. It would be on a 2013 L99..

Not sure on a 2013, but before I was tuned, that pattern did not work. AFM is there to haunt you forever...

Until you get tuned

I don't see how it could really work in shift mode. And if it does, just keep it in a lower gear to cruise at a bit higher rpm. I NEVER drive without shifting anymore. My paddles on the shifter makes it easier and funner.

I was told if you put it in M it was shut off. I just had it tuned out on my 2011 SS.

No combination of anything would ever completely make AFM go away on my 2010.

I will get tuned at some point, but that will be a ways away...

Doesn't affect your car (V6's). On L99's it shuts down 4 of the cyl's at certain times like cruising on the highway in order to be more efficient. It causes a little bit of lag sometimes that can be annoying as it's switches back and forth.

What do you make of this?!

Here is the conversation:

Dave: Can AFM be turned off in an auto, 2013 Camaro 2SS by shifting into paddle shift mode or any other way...

Neskens D: If you are in paddle mode or manual shifting the AFM system is automatically deactivated. In automatic the system act independently of the drivers input. Its activated by determining the vehicle needs horse power and torque. When on the highway and cruising the engine will use its cylinders as needed. You cannot activate nor deactivate the system on your own.

Dave: But, if I'm in manual mode, it will stay off?

Neskens D: The 2 SS uses both Active Fuel Management and sequential fuel injection. When in manual you will be using the sequential fuel injection.

Dave: Ok. Sorry but I just want to be clear. Whether I am driving in a neighbourhood or cruising at 100km/h on the highway, as long as I stay in manual mode, the AFM will stay deactivated?

Neskens D: Yes your understanding of the system is correct, at low speed or cruising if you are using the manual system, your active fuel management will not engage. Allowing you to use all the power you would like to get out of car.

Dave: Thanks so much for clarifying.

I purposely asked a few times to make sure I was reading it right...

Makes sense. From when I had AFM still, I don't recall hearing the AFM kick in if I was using my paddles.. even cruising in 6th gear on cruise control.
