In any case, it's my opinion about why it's not an option.

It's also possible they simply haven't gotten to this meaningless stuff yet. This is the first year with this radio and the bugs were still being worked out of the NAV implementation (which was on restraint for awhile).
Yeah.... no clue at all.

It's obviously not meaningless if people are asking for it.

The process would be much simpler in a MyLink setting than an aftermarket one. In this case, you're comparing apples to papayas. Have you even seen the way Ford's custom background screen works? It's so simple an older toddler could do it. Most Ford dealerships put a picture of their dealership lot on a usb drive and set it as the background screen for all of the cars on the lot. It's not a 10 minute process but a 20 second one. Again, I don't think you know what you're talking about.

You are comparing apples to oranges. Everyone of these "little things" that people want added/changed, add up to hundreds of man hours of work to implement. Resulting in price increases.

Can it be done, yes.

But even the most simple process will get FUBARed by someone. While items like this are simple or a "no brainer" for some of us, other people just don't have a clue...plus accidents happen. Those people will then take their car to the dealer and expect it to be fixed under warranty. So Chevrolet spends money to make it possible, and then spends money to fix it when it gets messed up. It's more cost effective to simply let the consumer deal with the issue on their own (ie: aftermarket).

Using your same argument, all consumer electronics should have the option to change screen logos...TV's, DVD players, remote controls, the list goes on and on. Now how many of those allow the user to change it? Exactly my point.

In any case, I agree, it would be nice to be able to change it.
The little changes do add up. It would be nice to change the image but not the end of the world. My gripe is this: When I turn the power off to any of my devices the screen goes black. Maybe because off means off to most people. However with this MyLink system a huge Bowtie appears. Why? I know I'm driving a Chevy so why the cockpit advertisement??? The amount of hours that it takes a programmer to put a splash screen up when a button is pressed is about the same amount of time it would take put a module in place to upload a photo and use it as a wallpaper. This is not new technology and the MyLink system is entry level in my opinion and not worth more than 300 bucks.

NOBODY goes to the trouble of dreaming up a new image file format for their background screen. They just create an image, define a size, pick an off the shelf format like PNG, IMG, etc, then simply rename it for their code.

Now comes the hard part... finding the image file, and replacing it with your own, renamed and sized to match the original.

Many have done this in the early days of smart phones, or PC BIOS splash screens, or their PSP game machines, etc. It's just a matter of getting enough of these Mylinks out there, and getting boring enough that people feel like experimenting a bit.

I have no desire to advertise for anyone about anything for free.
I take off Dealer Name plates, I leave on vehicle identifiers. (Bowtie, RS, etc.)
I want to NOT advertise "CHEVROLET MYLINK" inside my car every time I turn it on.
For THAT privilege, Chevrolet should afford me consideration.
Otherwise, like insipid, un-asked-for Dealer Advertising GLUED to my car, I should be
able to remove it.
This is NOT an oversight NOR is it precluding dorky customers changing things and messing them up. It is purposely, willfully, forcing YOU, the consumer, to advertise.
THIS IS CHEVROLET ADVERTISING INSIDE OF YOUR CAR. Trust me, they actually thought about this a LOT.

Honestly I got my link because I wanted the bigger space. When I get the money I want to replace it with something better and replace the cheap speakers.

What about the fact you have no cd player in the 2013/ newer models but all the other 2013 cars come with MY LINK and a cd player!

It isn't that hard to put your CD files onto a flashdrive from your computer. And A flashdrive will hold even more songs than a CD, so you can put ALL of your CDs on a flashdrive and not have to worry about changing them out hwen they cycle through. I don't have a problem just using the music on my phone or ipod either. It is definitely not an oversight, just a step into modern day. Not a lot of people buy CDs anymore with digital files available.
