Custom MyLink Background Picture???

Is this seriously not possible to do? If so, what a complete oversight and one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.

If it's not, I wouldn't call it an "oversight" or "dumb". While many of us are technical and like to customize things, there are many more of people that are not. So when they try to do it and bork the radio, GM could get stuck having to fix it. It's common sense and applies to many consumer items, such as computers.

Yeah but man... it's just a picture. How much damage can you do selecting a picture from your usb drive as your background?? The answer is not much.

It's definitely an oversight. My wife's older 2010 Ford Escape could do this.... why couldn't Chevrolet? It's honestly so simple it's dumb they didn't include it.

I agree, had to turn off that nasty "standard" background and go to the solid color.

There has to be a way.....

Normally, its only putting a picture of the right size (shape and pixels) in the right place. Seems like the hard part is moving the picture file to the right place. :(

I'm with you guys. I'd like to change the background to something better looking. Even black would be better than what's on there.

I'm not disagreeing...I'm just saying when you start letting people add/change stuff, someone will find a way to mess it up.

It's a picture man. Kinda like you change the picture on your computer desktop.

You make it sound so simple. The Kenwood model allows you to change the image, search on the process you have to follow...and the number of people complaining about it.

You are comparing apples to oranges. Everyone of these "little things" that people want added/changed, add up to hundreds of man hours of work to implement. Resulting in price increases.

Can it be done, yes.

But even the most simple process will get FUBARed by someone. While items like this are simple or a "no brainer" for some of us, other people just don't have a clue...plus accidents happen. Those people will then take their car to the dealer and expect it to be fixed under warranty. So Chevrolet spends money to make it possible, and then spends money to fix it when it gets messed up. It's more cost effective to simply let the consumer deal with the issue on their own (ie: aftermarket).

Using your same argument, all consumer electronics should have the option to change screen logos...TV's, DVD players, remote controls, the list goes on and on. Now how many of those allow the user to change it? Exactly my point.

In any case, I agree, it would be nice to be able to change it.

Ummm. What?

Ford can do it. Mazda can do it. A freaking android or iPhone can do it. I'm not sure why you're arguing this because changing a picture is NOT a big deal and would have ZERO repercussions. It's something you or anyone else could not possibly screw up.

After reading your response I'm not sure you quite understand what we're talking about, even.

LOL. The more I think about this, the more hilarious it becomes. It would take less than a day of code to write in. (And trust me, the code to write MyLink isn't that impressive). See, the way this works is if your selected picture doesn't fit the required format (jpeg, gif, etc.) or pixel size the computer will not accept it. It's that simple.

We're not talking about codecs required to decode certain types of video formats here. But hey, now that we're on that topic... that would be nice as well. Asking for video... now that I could see requiring more $$$.

You're right. Obviously me and the entire GM developement team don't have a clue.

In any case, it's my opinion about why it's not an option.

It's also possible they simply haven't gotten to this meaningless stuff yet. This is the first year with this radio and the bugs were still being worked out of the NAV implementation (which was on restraint for awhile).
