It was a Fram Filter I got it from walmart I remember now because sadly its all they had and didnt have a choice at time as stated. Also want to add when in my tech school my one class I had we went over filters and oils etc one which is good bad ok etc... We had visual aids of filters and oils etc with so many miles and so forth on them. Out of all the brands FRAM was by far the worst filters we reviewed... Purolator,Wix,Mobile1,Bosch,Mopar,K&N filters were all good and if not great filters. I will stand by what my schooling has tought me. As fram is a crappy filter. But you like what you like I guess to his his own everyone. I was just curious if anyone has had this issue before... It freaked me out.

Sounds like framaganda to me.

Frams suck. The only good thing about them is the textured end makes them easy to take off and throw away.

It was down to Wix, K&N, and Purolator. After visual inspection and test in from oil forget oil brands. But what filter pleased me most personaly was the Wix! I had never really heard of wix before hand. But the material and results won my approval. Seeing is believe in alot of cases. That doesnt mean wix is a FACT better then K&N,mobile1,purolator,etc. But just shows that after testing and reviewing on hand with class discousion etc. That those select filters met an over saw better results then other leading brands.

All goes back to what you like in the end tho. Sharing my experience and knowledge I have with you guys. If you want the best its Wix in my book! If you can get it around you. Its kinda hard to fix here.... Big Fram and delco area here

Im going to order a case of friggen Wix filters next pay. Tired of settling for crap.

Now that is funny. Care to explain how the OIL FILTER affects starting???

I have used Fram for thirty years now (along with Catrol GTX). Never had an engine problem or a filter problem, even with as many as 250k+ miles. I also change the oil & filter every 3000-4000 miles.

Based on experience, I really see no reason to change.

As to the OP, install the filter correctly and you will not have this problem.

The standard Fram filter has cardboard endcaps. Felt and fiber are not cardboard. Advance Auto has sectioned filters on display. Cardboard has no business being in an oil filter.

It's called a faulty, weak or inoperable anti-drainback valve. Your favorite filter has been commonly referred to as the orange can of death. Here's some help http://lmgtfy.com/?q=orange+cans+of+death. I've replaced/rebuilt two engines that ran fram filters and pennzoil over the years. Now you couldn't pay me to use either.

The OP won't use them and since I've had multiple problems with them in the past, I saw reasons to change and did.

The drainback valve will not affect starting. Starting is a matter of the ignition and fuel systems.

You can start an engine without any oil at all. It will start fine. It just won't run long. Knew a guy many years ago who proved this one.

if the drainback valve doesnt work as designed, that lets the oil drain back though the filter into the pan. Less oil in the block=less oil prime for the next start up...which can make the engine turn over a bit harder due to lack of lubrication. Nobody ever said it would not start.
