Membership criteria is different for each credit union. Mine, for example, has a list of companies that make you eligible if you work there. Check with your local credit unions to see what their rules are.

It really depend on the credit union. The website will definitely tell you what the membership criteria is. Some may just require that you open a savings account.

If I get my loan through a local credit union wouldn't I be considered a member anyway?

Yes, but you need to be a member to get the loan. Membership may require just opening a savings account, or living in a certain area, or working for a member company. There could be a lot of ways to be eligible for membership. I would just look at some of the local credit unions in your area to see which ones you would qualify for membership under. I'm sure there is at least one.

Thanks Jack it appears it won't be very difficult to become a member at some of my local credit unions...... Now to find a local dealership that will honor the GM discount $1000 off is awesome.

For the clueless folks that selected "any" CU. YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE PROOF that you belong to the CU. So, yes you do have to be a member. Read the rules. Reading is fundamental!

supplier discount for my 2SS RS was $1397.00, Dealer would NOT honor it, just as it says, it's his choice. But I did redeam $3700 of my GM card.

Langs Chev in Beavercreek OH has honered the Credit Union price for at least one other camaro5 member, he picked his up last week.

But alas, it does seem to be up to each dealer. Which seems wierd, cause it's a GM program.

Yes I was in fact clueless about the member thing but it appears it is very easy to get a membership at many credit unions some you just have to live in the area of the credit union some you can pay $5.00 to open a savings account either way it always appears to be well worth it so long as you can get it honored at the dealership you are buying from.

All 2009 GM cars, SUVs, crossovers and light-duty trucks are eligible for the Credit Union Member Discount from GM except:

Chevrolet
Corvette ZR1

Saturn
VUE Two-Mode Hybrid

All 2008 GM cars, SUVs, crossovers and light-duty trucks are eligible for the Credit Union Member Discount from GM.
