EGTs melt cats, not boost.
Someone above mentioned the tune...and he's correct.

And to those that are wondering, this car has over 40 track days, most have been road course, about 6 drag and 3 or 4 auto-x, cats are still good.
Aftermarket high flow cats wont last forever but if your car is properly tuned they will live for a long time.
We have been installing and selling Dynatech's and Kooks with no issues for years, then again we have tuned most of the cars, either if we installed or the customer installed.

And this. I agree with these statements.

So with everything else stock and no tune, what would be the expected life expectancy?

With the proper tune, a cat SHOULD be a "lifetime" part.
Depends on the quality. Ask again in a few years! lol

Is a stock tune considered a proper time?

I dont know.
I had the stock tune for maybe 2 weeks. LOL

But I doubt it. Stock tunes are for driveability and emissions compliance above what performance they can get. From experience with other vehicles, I'd say no.

Wow, quite a bit of information in the FI section on this subject. I did not realize how serious the damage can be with them being blocked.

Why not?
The wrong A/F ratio and/or severely retarded timing (like when under boost or nitrous) can do some pretty "neat" stuff!
