i think the FI 3800 would give more mileage to offset a z28 in CAFE

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_V6_engine Series II Introduced in 1995, the Series II is quite a different engine. Although the stroke for the 3.8 L engine remained at 3.4 in (86 mm), and the bore remained at 3.8 in (97 mm), the engine architecture was vastly changed. The deck height is shorter than the Series I, reducing weight and total engine package size. This required that the piston connecting rods be shortened 1 in (25 mm), and the crankshaft was also redesigned. A new intake manifold improved breathing while a redesigned cylinder head featured larger valves and a higher compression ratio. The result was 205 hp (153 kW) and 230 lb·ft (312 N·m), better fuel economy, and 26 lb (12 kg) lighter overall weight (to 392 lb (178 kg)). The 3800 weighs only 22 lb (10.0 kg) more than the High Feature V6, despite being an all cast iron design. The new intake manifold greatly improved breathing. To meet emissions standards, an EGR tube was placed in the intake manifold to reduce combustion temperatures. This increases fuel mileage by a substantial margin. The 3800 Series II was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1995 through 1997. GM recalled 1.5 million vehicles with this engine on April 14, 2009.[4] [edit] L36 Naturally Aspirated A variation of the L36 engine in a 1998 Holden VT Commodore Another variation of the L36 engine in a 1995 Oldsmobile 88 This engine is or was used in the following vehicles: * Buick Le Sabre * Buick Park Avenue * Buick Regal LS * Buick Riviera * Chevrolet Camaro * Chevrolet Impala * Chevrolet Lumina LTZ * Chevrolet Monte Carlo (Z34, LT, SS) * Holden Commodore (VS, VT, VX, VY) * Holden Statesman (VS, WH, WK) * Holden Ute (VU, VY) * Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight * Oldsmobile Intrigue * Oldsmobile LSS * Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight * Pontiac Bonneville * Pontiac Firebird * Pontiac Grand Prix

The most built GM V6 is probably the 4.3L though. It's a 350 with 2 cyl's chopped off. I have one in my Blazer and it's good motor.

I heard this engine rumor as well but just didn't make sense to me. Why would they offer a 3.8 next to a 3.6? Maybe the 3.6 is going to get punched out to a 3.8.

(runs to hide behind chicken wire at the stage). Ok What I mean.. is a 6 with 2 cyl's that turn off for AFM like the L99. Yea.. I know it sucks.. but just thinking about the market. Because LS does not need 300 HP and a 6 speed transmission. Ford's new strategery is to dump cheap base mustangs and to grab sport coupe Market share. Problem is they can offer them 5 grand or more below what Chevy can do. Cause of the independent rear end, better eng and tranny, Chevy can't offer that cheap. So... you make LS cheaper to counter that move. Just what I am thinking it's of course no GM rumor just a "what I would do if". And it does not hurt the performance models of the Camaro, it probably would help protect SS production by showing more MPG and cheaper prices. A decoy. |

EEK! I hope that doesn't mean an FI'd 3.8L for the Z28...

If the green rumors are true, GM may have found a way to convince me to buy a new coupe soon rather than wait and buy a used 'vert later on. Good decision lads!
![]() The Buick engine rumor, I dunno about that. Sounds a little far fetched to me. What is that even being used in currently? Not saying it isn't true, just that I'll need a bit more supporting evidence before I buy into it. So what are the specs on the thing?

they're probably going to use this as an option against ford's new ECOBoost motors, a fi'd v6 with good mileage.

Well it is my understanding that Ford intends for Ecoboost to be an alternative to the V8 in Mustang, not replace it. Hopefully if GM is offering this engine in response the purpose will be the same. I agree with you, having an increasingly rare V8 is a big part of the Camaro's appeal.
