Its a lOOOOOOOng story, but due to a defect the gears developed a whine and need to be replaced and the shop thats doing the work only had 3.91's in stock and i need it replaced like yesterday as a secondary issue developed and i have a grinding when making turns. At least now i can make a comparison between the two cause like many i had a hard time deciding when i bought the 3.73's.

I've been installing rear end gears for 20 years, the most pain in the but rear end to set up (The first time) was the 3rd gen Camaro due to it's small 7 5/8'' ring gear, which makes the pinion very small and prone to breaking with 4.10's, weakest rear they made I think, they have to be set up perfect. I think that was one of the weakest rear ends they used, but they were making less then 200HP! I used Richmond gears, back then it only cost $200 for the gears and less then $100 for the installation kit, man has prices increased! Now $700 for gears for the 5th gen?!

3.91's (P/N 22813040) are $250 from most dealerships. But yes, other aftermarket gears (i.e. Richmond, Yukon, etc.) are typically around $500 or more depending on where you're shopping.

No, unfortunately, but they do in the butt dyno.

Correct. Gears do not cause the creation of more power. They improve performance by taking what is already being made to better use. You will not get better dyno numbers, but you will get better numbers at the track.

According to GM Fuel page, 3.91's give...
.... a 13% torque increase in the LS3 (manual)
and 20% torque increase in the L99 (automatic) when using the stock engine specs, the math works out to: LS3: +54.6 lbstq (420lbs stock) L99: +82 lbstq (410lbs stock)

Why the 4.11 over the 3.91 in an m6 SS. I just put 3.91s in and now you've got me questioning the 4.11 set. My Car is making 447rwtq and I use it mostly for track days. The 3.91s feel very good...don't have track experience yet with these gears, but I'm strongly considering buying a 19" wheel and tire setup that will have an overall tire diameter in the 26 inch range.
