Finally had a chance to take my tail light apart. Nothing special, looks like the pic above... I was able to get most of it apart by doing the oven trick, although I don't think I let it cook long enough, got impatient and broke the outer lens into two pieces... Cutting is probably safer... The inner lens and housing piece are salvageable... Unfortunately I don't see any real worth while modifications work taking the tail lights out of my car to risk taking them apart...
The only thing that comes to mind is to maybe black out the center section of each side of the clear lens... due to the shape of the clear lens, it might look like some kind of cool afterburner effect... I plan to at least try it on this one, and I will power it up and take some pictures. |

Sorry to resurrect this thread but has anyone got pictures of a 2014 RS LED tail lamp that has been opened up? Thanks

This. I want to see if its possible to make the area which doesn't light up (the inner part of each taillight) into a second turn signal...not sure if its possible though

To do amber you will need to replace the 8 LED on the board, there all soldered in. |

Your best bet is to cut it of with a dremel tool most people use the cut off wheel but i found that to do more harm then good, so i got this one.
This works the best as it does not melt the plastic it cuts it and i had a lot of luck cutting the lens off. |

So today I went ahead and opened my 2014 RS LED tail lamp unit, I used a Dremel and cut around the lens between the black plastic and the lens and just very patiently took my time.
Here's the results: ![]() ![]() ![]()

After opening the lamp today I don't think what you want to do would be possible as there is hardly any space in the area that doesn't light up and every led is on the board.

mmm, so there are no LED's on the right side of the board only on the left side (im referring to the turn signal)..
it would be nice to see a sequential turn signal effect on the stop led's and a flashing pattern for hazard lights or show mode... Lots of ideas to try.
