i have a regular black ipod, i think its 160g? that seems really high so im sure its a tier or 2 below that, but its definitely less than 2 years old. sometimes it recognizes it, sometimes i have to disconnect and restart and turn my car off all to make it connect. i dont know what exactly fixes it, but it would make things a hell of a lot easier

I have an early build Camaro too, I finally found a dealer here in the Tulsa area to update my PDIM software to the current version. Takes appx an hour to update software, but based in the info contained in the Camaro5 group they (Danny Beck Chev in Sapulpa, OK) did an outstanding job.

I'm reporting back since I now have my car. My old (4 or 5 years?) "ipod with video" 60GB (now usually referred to as the ipod classic) didn't work initially with the car. However, I updated the firmware on my ipod and it works fine now.

and if u are pluggin to the usb port, what are you using to connect it? i have a really old 60gb ipod and i use the cord that came with it to attach to the charging dock, but i take the dock part off, just use that cord into the usb in the center console, works great...i love it, i can browse through all the songs and playlists using my camaro stereo |

The PDIM software is FAR from flawless. My 120GB iPOD classic works just fine...about 80% of the time. The other time is spent with the PDIM refusing to recognize anything is plugged in- no charge, no play. The only solution is to turn off the radio, replug, and then about half the time it'll start working. Otherwise it takes a few key cycles. Mine seems to be getting worse as time goes by, if it gets any worse I will have to take it in and let the old guys at the dealership try to figure it out when most likely they can't even work a universal remote. Its frustrating that something as simple and plug n play USB stumped the Chevy engineers so badly. Its really a disgrace. This isn't a new technology, it should've been a piece of cake.

One Possible Method
Since I've given up trying to get my IPOD Touch [3rd gen] to properly operate via the USB port, which would allow full functionality using the radio's search features, etc....I opted to go this route. It may not be the best or cheapest alternative, but I figured I throw this out there for people to consider.
It's Belkin's "TuneBase" unit. I got it at Best Buy for 70 bucks. It won't allow the radio search functions and all that, so I operate directly on the IPOD screen...which is why I needed a unit that brought the IPOD higher up in my field of vision. Now, the Belkin connects into the power plug, then the IPOD sits within the cradle - which is elevated by the Belkin's adjustable neck. The IPOD then plugs using it's 30 pin connector to the Belkin unit. So now you have power and charge to the IPOD. There is a mini jack that connects from the Belkin unit to the IPOD headphone connector. Then you run another cable from inside the storage console of the car to the base of the Belkin unit [near where it plugs into the power source]. Now the radio has the signal [Jack In]. All cables are included with the Belkin unit. The cradle swivels too, so if you prefer the landscape IPOD view, you can turn it 90 degrees. So far it works great for me. Now I suspect you can run the input cable directly from the car to the IPOD without using their inter-cable, but using the unit and cables as they suggest, keeps the signal cable running along the car's middle council rather than dangling from the IPOD. I hope the pics tell the story better than I can write it! One side note: Although the Belkin Unit says it's for the IPOD Nano...because the cradle arm adjusts for length, my IPOD Touch [plastic cover and all] worked just fine in it.

Another with iPod connect issues
I have and iTouch 4, a Nano, a Zune, using factory cables on the USB port. On all three devices sometimes the car stereo recognizes the device and sometimes doesn't. Unplugging and replugging 2 or 3 times sometime corrects. Sometimes the device is recognized at car startup. Can't seem to find a pattern in the failure. Seems if my devices or cables were incompatible they should not work at all. So, I'm blaming Chevy. (Still, I love my car!)
