Those are some bad ass cars on street outlaws.

But yeah staged....I'm almost positive they do the races at an airstrip. Next time you watch it look at all the lights.

Got this from the Street Outlaw guys FB. I believe all their test hits are done illegally. But I think the actual races are held on a street that has been shut down. Kinda hard to believe that not a single person ever has been driving down that road at any given time. But I enjoy watching it. The cars are incredible. Fat and Furious was a stereotypical fat guy show.

It certainly is possible that the driver has the reaction time of a drunk tree sloth.

But to provide a counterpoint, many people feel that the old muscle cars were faster than they really were. Big engines alone do not equal quick ets all by themselves. Some of those cars made good ets. A lot made poor ets. A select few made great ets.

With the 396, a 1970 Chevelle SS was clocked at 14.41@ 97.35mph by Car and Driver, when the car was brand new

With the LS-5 454, a 1970 Chevelle SS was clocked at 14.20@100 mph later on by Muscle Car Review. That's the hydraulic lifter 454.

The Chevelle is question could simply have the lowest numeric rear gear ratio available, at 3.31:1 instead of the highest factory numeric at 4.10:1. The car also has a manual trans, not the choice transmission for making those sexy ets. If we knew the whole story, it would be very obvious to those competent and knowledgeable amateurs- myself among that group- we have here what the real problem was, and why an engine swap was not needed. But this is a TV show and we are not supposed to know anything except what they show us on the TV.

15.0 was not a terribly rare et for these kinds of cars when new especially with a borderline 3.31:1 rear gear and a manual box; it's just that they could be faster and were sometimes faster- just not every time down the track. A bad reaction, a poor shift...easy for me to see a 15 second run.

Yes, they have to shut down the roads for legal purposes, you can thank worthless lawyers for that. Some welfare queen would try to get hit by one of them so she can sue Discovery Channel for millions.

While I do enjoy "Fast 'n' Loud," every single one of the race/ build/ flip car shows are as fake as a politician's smile. Watch camera angles on "spontaneous" conversations with unwitting people, and tell me that with five different angles (none of which show another camera), back and forth, up- close- and- personal shots, the subject had no idea he was being filmed.... and the sequence was NOT shot in multiple takes? Yeah... okay.

And on the occasions when the fuzz shows up, the cars are black and white, and say "POLICE" on the door... never any mention of state, county, or municipality... just generic, plain brown wrapper "POLICE." Come on... really?

All shows have artificial deadlines to beat... makes them seen exciting. All shows include some conflict... required part of the formula for TV scripts.

There may be SOME actual spontaneous dialogue and action in some of the shows... but all of the shows are MOSTLY scripted, directed, staged, set up, and multiple takes are required to get the best shots.

Ironic how NOT real "reality" TV is. But, it sells commercial advertising, which, like any business, is the reason for being. Not faulting the producers at all: There's no moral obligation to be "real." They are there to make money, and if that's how it's done, then they are doing it right.

Old muscle cars respond with better times by modding the crappy suspension and tires than engine upgrades.

These car-build/race shows are entertaining(imo), that's their purpose. If we had to scrutinize every single tid-bit, it would just be plain boring. Plus, you can always change the channel..

It's good entertainment but let's face it. Real illegal street racing is not a show..........it's more of a documentary.

For all the guys on the forums with actual car knowledge, there are dozens more lacking any real auto know-how. Check out the Camaro 5th Generation group on Facebook for proof.

In general terms, yes the suspensions are bad and the tires today are vastly superior.

But check out the F.A.S.T. (Factory Appearing Stock Tire) class. That menas the car has to look as it did from the factory- no tubular headers unless it's what came from the factory, and stock tires, meaning bias ply, not radial.

Those cars were doing sub 12s ten years ago
