I have heard a rumor that the 2011 has no holes behind the rear bowtie. Ask me in late December after I take delivery and I'll be able to confirm or deny that rumor. Last edited by GB EB; 08-29-2010 at 04:51 AM. Reason: Spelling |

I would recommend using rubbing alcohol to remove sticky residues. Not only dose it evaporate quickly...it dose not kill the finish of your paint. Just simply rinse the area with some water and your good to go. In my experience...and I have been doing this for years...it dose not harm the paint.

The best stuff for removing adhesive residue is 3M adhesive remover. It works great and it's safe for automotive finishes. You can find it at local auto parts stores.

WD-40 works good too.
I've removed many emblems from many cars this way. Soak the tape behind the emblem with WD-40 for about 10 minutes, then heat it with a hair dryer and use a plastic spackle applicator wrapped in a microfiber cloth or clean white t-shirt and pry it up, one section at a time. Respray with WD-40 and reheat as needed. After the emblem is off, resoak the remaining tape and work at removing it with a microfiber cloth.

Man, the rear bowtie sounds like quite an ordeal... I may just make my rear panel vinyl with a bowtie shaped hole in the middle to avoid removal. Damn.

the rear bowtie is not bolted or screwed on....just 3 m tape.....the holes are so the machine that puts them on lines them up properly. Just get the fishing line under the edges on both sides to seperate it from the trunk and then pull from both edges to as not to damage the trunk lid
I have done this it works

So do the side "camaro" emblems have any holes behind them or are they just stuck on with 3M tape?

Is it possible to take them off, paint them and put them back on with the same stuff?

No, you will have to get new tape and cut it to fit each letter properly, then carefully line them back up and space them evenly. Getting them off is the easy part, reapplication is tricky and takes time and patience to get it perfect

easy way to solve the problem
just use fishing line do not use wd40 it will take the paint off the "camaro".u dont need to heat it!it comes right off,i just did it my self.and it will have a black out line of where the "camaro" was and u can use that to make it look right when u glue it back on.
