If not the GTO, which would be your 2nd choice.

The GTO, assuming they're all priced about the same.
Of course, I'm very happy with my 2006 GT. Both are fine cars and would serve you well. |

I had an 04 GTO and loved it. The interiors are very nice. The back seats are surprisingly useful. Way more room than the Camaro, Firebird and Mustang. The seats are great. Don't forget that the 06 cars are pretty much identical to the 05. I don't think there were any revisions at all.

Well, having owned both a 2003 Mach 1 and a 2006 GTO, I would have to go against the grain of this thread and say if the choice was between those two cars, I'd go with the Mach 1.
Both are going to have about the same performance, mid-to-low 13's, with a less than stellar driver, high 12's with a great one. The interior on the GTO is going to be much better in terms of ergonomics and materials, but the Mach 1 is a considerable step up from a Mustang GT. The GTO also gives you a 6-speed manual versus a 5-speed in the Mach. Both offer some serious fun factor, for sure. The Mach will have a usable trunk and fold-down rear seats if you need more room, the GTO has neither. GTO gets a 400hp LS2 and some serious heft, the Mach gives you 305hp but it is much lighter. Both ride the same despite the Mach's solid rear and the GTO's IRS. Unless you are a die-hard GM guy, it's almost impossible to argue in the GTO's favor in the looks department. The Mach 1 wins in that area, IMHO, hands down. |

I think the mach 1s are nice looking cars, but I always thought the interior of the GTO is much nicer. I think the GTO is more of a drivers car. Just my opinion though

I loved my GTO. But I'd say get one of the F bodies. The aftermarket for the GTO wasn't the best to start with and some of the market was drying up due to the small # of cars produced (~45K over 3 years). Other than the engine and trans most everything else is vehicle specific and sometimes was a PITA for what would fit. I never found a tire and wheel package I was happy with. You could get custom pieces done but they were a fortune. Taking BMW rims worked for many but due to the varying production tolerances what fit one car might not fit any other.
Just my opinion.

I might just get a 05 or 06 GTO myself after all the + comments about it. I love the interior and the look of that car. The 400hp 6.0 liter aint too shabby either. But I was looking at the auto Camaro 1SS, which would mean the L99, but it seems that GM screwed the pooch on the L99's AFM so now I wouldn't touch a 5th gen with your money let alone mine.
