I've had a bunch of different exhaust combos on my car.

Catless makes it a lot louder, just amplifies, and it gets even louder with an x pipe, and then a cam.

I would put cats on it OR stock mufflers. Or in my case I added a set of Hooker Maxflow mufflers. I think my H/C, catless combo is pretty quiet compared to others:

I had Kooks longtubes, their cats, stock H, and Moroso Spiral flow muffers. Then I took off cats and then x pipe. OMG at WOT sounded like a race car but even part throttle it sounded super loud. And a bit raunchy.

What do you guys think ?
Did you have the car tuned after the install, & if so was it expensive?

Thanks for the help.

An L99 with headers and no tune has got to be very annoying with AFM. With a good tune you will definitely feel the increase in power especially the way the tranny will shift.
Actually from what I have seen and read from experiences the Res X Pipe is better at quieting things down than the stock Res.

The stock res is completely hollow inside, its just a can with a pipe in and a pipe out. The Res X has baffling etc to help cut down volume.

I agree maybe he should let himself get used to it for a while, then make his decision.

Also when he takes it for tuning he can hear the car from outside, and get a better sense of what others hear. HAHA...I will add that this didn't help for me, as all I realized is how deafening my car is with the NPP flaps open.

I want to add the video but am having trouble uploading it (any suggestions)

Would adding cats back to the mix lower the sound a little bit ?

Also my butt dyno does not feel a drastic difference in power. I am having it tuned tomorrow, will that make the power more noticeable.
My car is an LS3. I pretty much have the same mods as you other than the ported T-body. I have hi-flow though. I am in the opposite situation as you. I will be going to off road pipes and selling the hi-flow cats because I am boosting my blower. I also have the SLP LM2 axle back. Anyways... I noticed a big difference going with the headers. I dynoed at 381 before the install and 412 after Stock I made 370 to the wheels. With the cats my car is not really to loud at idle. It really comes to life when I am at WOT. With your same basic mods my car ran a best of 12.52 with a best trap speed of 115.12. I was on the stock tires and the track was not prepped. Had I got the 60ft down I believe with the mph I would have been close to a low 12 ET. I know your an L99, but this is just to give you an idea where I stand. Here are a couple vids for reference. Enjoy

To the OP, if u wanna make a deal, I'm looking to make my car louder lol so I have Kooks HI flow Cats, I want kooks off road pipe. If u wanna a deal to where we kinda trade in a sense that I sell you my cats and I can buy mine kooks OR pipe? They have about 8-10k miles thru them.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm gonna leave it as is for now. I got to open it up tonight and a wot it is loud. I just hope the tune makes a noticeable difference in the power felt. I'll post tomorrow and let everyone know.

Have you though about gutting them? I'm in the same boat as you, but not for making it louder. I just don't want to melt them if I boost my car.

You should notice the gain above 60 MPH for sure. My G8 used to pull hard from 60-120 with my ARH headers.

Thought about it but idk if I really want too if I don't have too, I'd prefer maybe swapping someone or selling this to someone, so I can have the legit off road pipe but if no one wants too then I might.... What do you have to do to gut them?

If your Kooks cats are in good shape you should be able to sell the for just about what the off road pipes from Kooks cost. I found the for $200 shipped. I would think we could get just about that much for our hi-flow cats considering what they go for new. As for gutting them. This was something we would do back in the day on our old 5.0 Mustangs. We would drop the H-pipe and punch the cats out with a long metal rod. They will break out and leave you with a home made off road pipe. That is not the route I am going, but it can be done and there are many members on here that have done that.
