I appreciate any advice that will help me figure this out.
Thanks.
Hi. There's nothing to figure out

It's normal. Nothing to "fix". Some designs do it, some don't. Ours does. Nothing's broken. You'll learn to drive to minimize it. Enjoy your 1LE.

Because there is nothing to fix. All parts are manufactured with specific tolerances to account for the relative shrinking and expansion of materials in the heat and cold. Your parts are going to have relatively huge gaps between them in the dead of a North Dakota winter versus at full operating temperatures during a heat wave in Las Vegas. If these tolerances didn't exist, they'd expand and make contact in the heat or have such extreme gaps in the cold they could lose all contact.

Fluids adhere to similar laws. Your transmission fluid has very different viscosity at full operating temperature than when the transmission is cold, which is why the TR6060 is a notchbox upon cold start in the winter and smooth at operating temps.

The clanking you're referencing should go away once the vehicle is at operating temperature. If not, you may want to work on your clutch technique.

Two piece driveshaft to my mind is not helping matters. My opinion is that if you de-clutch when the trans is "loaded up", it's gonna dump and clunk. nature of the beast.

Imagine it's 1965 and you just bought a GT350. The rear end howls and cracks and pops. Must be broken!?!?! Nawp. That's just what the design sounds like. Customers were convinced the rear ends were failing though.

This is the reason

The clutch disc has springs that absorb drive train shock. Pic attached. Basically its the springs absorbing load and then releasing. It's in the design and won't hurt anything, however it's quite annoying.

Driveline slop. Completely normal. You'll learn to drive smoother and it'll lessen a lot.

The powertrain on these cars is pretty.... unrefined by modern standards. There's a reason it says to engine brake in the owner's manual. Something to the effect of only releasing the clutch pedal just before coming to a complete stop.

What I meant was not lugging the engine you nut. If you're going slow and not needing to send power through the drive train, clutch it. Hey, get a home! Ha!

It doesn't happen if you don't try to slam your foot through the firewall. Solved the problem for me at least.

Yep. What everyone else says. It's normal. I called the dealer to question it when I first bought the car and he told me to keep the revs up. It sure helps. You get used to it.
