Many of the cars that have come through my shop with high power and spark blow out is easily fixed with a Wire upgrade to feed the coils now offered in a kit from MSD. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/msd-88867

To take it a step farther we install JMS Ignition voltage booster to feed the coils and we can run large gaps at high boost and make more power.

I upgrade the plugs in our 125 RWHP packages and above

I upgrade the wires when we add headers.

Good info, thanks Ted

Let me further elaborate.

It is true that changing coils can cause poor power production BUT, it is not the fault of the coil but the Voltage feed to the coils.

In order for a hotter coil to make hotter spark it must have higher amperage and voltage feeding it.

It is also true that we see less of this with stock coils soley because the voltage demand is lower.

When you get Spark Blow out.

Closing the Gap is a Band aid fix for the real problem.

Note; We have seen weak alternators several times that lead to spark blow out, they are just not supplying enough system voltage.

The more aftermarket electrical items you add the more system voltage is used up not supplying the coils.

Add voltage to any of these problems and it will be fixed and you will make more power.

Ted.

Ted,
Does the MSD wire upgrade kit fit the ZL1? I was told by a local shop it won't fit the LSA engine.

Ted,
I took my car to another shop and this kit does not fit my 14 ZL1. This shop had 3 people look for the plugs and we even look on another ZL1 with the motor pulled. I have one big plug with the injectors and coils combined. Do you have the correct kit number?

Thank you for your help.

Some people just can't think outside the box.

Cut the plugs off the MSD harness.

It can be spliced in to the Pink wires at your plugs.

Ted,

Would you please send a picture on where you splice the switched pink wire into the wiring harness. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is interesting as I am running the TR7IX plugs currently. But recently after talking to the peep at Fastproms, when hes tunning he likes the non Iriduim (BR7EF). Just curious what would the benefits between the two. I feel like it has something to do with denotation maybe where the Iriduim ones may denotate before the standard ones do. IDK either way if anyone has input on this it would be greatly appreciated. Cause this is way over my head!

I am going to replace the spark plugs. Looking at the recommendations, looking at the NGK TR7IX 3690. But all the web sites say DOES NOT FIT for my 2012 ZL1. Is that just incorrect on the web sites? so the DO in fact fit?
