so what about having this...

top left - reverse
bottom left - 1st
top right - 2nd
bottom right - 3rd

and that's it

I prefer it on the right. When I first got the car I accidently put it in reverse a few times by going too far left past first. Now, at stoplights, I just find second then go straight up to first. No more overshooting.
