Right. Due mid-decade....the 5th gen Z28 or 'HP Edition' and the alpha-based 6th gen Camaro are two different things he's discussing in that quote.

9 times out of 10, its better to read the actual lines rather than between them ... the information is usually more accurate. He didn't say 'Z28', and for what its worth, he didn't say 'HP edition' either. All he said was 'future models', which could mean the next cars in the Synergy Series, the entire 2012 line up, the Z28, the HP Edition (if it isn't the Z28), or something else entirely.

The 'alpha based Camaro' isn't going to be any sort of sub-line for one specific model, it will be every single Camaro built in the next generation, expected sometime around 2015.

The LSA powered Camaro is being discussed by Chevrolet as the HP Edition. I am starting the campaign for any name but the HP Edition with this suggestion.

Did anybody hear back from BeckyD or any of the other dealers in attendance about the actual rear tire size?

I would place my bet on 305s in the rear.

Though I'd like from 315-325s, I'm really thinking, from all the profile views I've seen, that Pete's correct. Hopefully Becky can find something out. We'll all know soon enough

"As reported on HOMEPAGE.

This just in from BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet, who has just attended a National Chevrolet Dealer's meeting where among other things, the upcoming "Camaro Z28" or "HP Edition" model was confirmed and discussed!

Here are the confirmed details from the meeting:
  1. Production begins January 1, 2012
  2. Internally referred to as the "HP Edition" model (it was not actually referred to as "Z28" during the meeting)
  3. 6.2L supercharged engine
  4. Magnetic Ride suspension
  5. 285F / 330R tires
  6. Hood design to have louvre/slat design seen in spy photos (dealers in attendance were shown a gray Z28 model)
  7. Slight (not major) updates to the interior, with some brighter trimwork
.

Some additional (but unconfirmed) details thought to be related:
  • It's going to be bad-@$$
  • The Z28 is NOT "above" an SS, and an SS is NOT "above" a Z28
  • 550+ horsepower LS-engine based around the LSA (556/551 HP/TQ)
  • Package specific upgrades, including:
    - Body kit (revised front bumper fascia - some similarity to Bumblebee v2 in TFROTF; different grille mesh, revised hood - like the Bumblebee v2 hood in TFROTF, revised rear bumper fascia, 20-inch "tuning-fork" five-spoke wheels)
    - Possible chassis tuning including suspension/tires/wheels pending...
  • CTS-V-style front brakes
  • Certification for engine/transmission changes pending
  • Six-speed manual transmission may be the only transmission available, unless GM can piggy-back CTS-V certs'
  • Weight will probably be around 4000 lbs.
  • Pricing purportedlyless than Corvette (which model - unknown...)
These are not facts! Good grief man. This is supposed to be a fact only thread and you are posting something that has not been confirmed by General Motors. I don't care what was supposedly said a dealer meeting, until we get info from a GM representitive, not a sales person, this info can not and should not be posted anywhere on Camaro5.com as fact.

We consider it factual based on our regard for the source, or it wouldn't be in here....but this site itself was built around speculation, so feel free to consider it nothing more than that if you like.

At and old age, I remember what the Z 28 and SS represented in the old days. The Z28 was track handling car, the SS was the big engine Highperformance car.So the big horse power Camaro should be SC SS and hold Z28 name for lighter generation 6 Camaro, with Hi Performance generation V small block, to compete with the Bose 302 Mustang.

Should we wait several more years, though? I, personally, don't think it's necessary. This chassis is plenty capable, IMO. Why can't we have big weight, big power, and excellent handling. A lot of people are dismissing this car as being a good Z28 candidate without even know details of the car. We're all speculating, but is it really fair to totally dismiss it? Look at what members, sponsors, and vendors have achieved with SS so far? I almost get the feeling some people believe the 5th Gen CAMARO was better off not coming to production because weight always comes up. There's hardly acknowledgement of content, performance, potential, safety, amenities, and the rest of the good that embodies this generation. It seems SO easy to point at it's fat tail and wag a finger at GM for giving us IRS, leather, tight chassis, and everything else.

I'm sorry for the rant, but seeing these kinds of posts really rain on my parade. Carry on...
