Either way I've been drag racing for close to 15 years and I STILL say regardless of what GM gave you to play with the launch control system is an easy way to shell your halfshafts or worse your transmission. Revving your engine and dumping your clutch is NEVER a good idea. You'll get much better 60 foot times at the dragstrip by giving it enough gas to get the car up to about 2500 rpms or so. Let the clutch pedal out a tiny bit before revving the engine up to right before it engages (will improve your reaction times). Then at that point when the light comes down leave when you see the 3rd amber (assuming you are dragracing at a track). Dont just dump the clutch cause when your car hooks hard it will bog the motor. the idea is to feather the clutch enough to keep engine and wheelspeed up to propel the car without breaking the tires loose. If you do it right you should get a little bit of wheelhop at the top of 1st. getting a good 60' time is key to getting a good 1/4 mile ET cause after the launch everything else is pretty straightforward.... Think about this for a second when it comes to launch control and using it.. What generally saves the halfshafts is the contact patch of the tire not being able to get traction and breaking loose, the drivetrain doesn't get hurt cause the "stress" of the motors power just went up into wheelspin. No harm no foul. When the tires spin the computer senses it, reduces power to the wheels to stop the spin and car moves out albeit not at the highest rate that it theoretically could have if you manually walked that fine line between spinning and hooking. The first person who uses the "launch control" with a set of drag wheels and drag tires that hook like drag radials on a track which is much stickier than your average street is gonna blow their halfshafts apart without question..... My drag car leaves on a trans-brake which in function does something similar to "launch control" although my transmission is loaded with the engines power unlike having a clutch disengaged, and then dumping the clutch. My tranny is already loaded with the engines power so when i let off the transbrake the only thing shocked is the rest of the drivetrain, like the rearend gears, driveshaft and axles. Which is why that stuff on my car is built to handle the torque of an 18 wheeler. Look at the back tires on my racecar. That power if the car hooks has to go somewhere. And generally it will find the weakest link. On a 2010 that's the halfshafts most likely. Or the tranny internals... unless you like getting towed to the dealership don't use it. Learn how to drive the thing without traction control and launch it by slipping the clutch. that's how the mags are getting their best times...
