competitive launch mode

Has anyone had luck using the launch control on the M6? When I try to use it, as it says in the manual my engine does not stop at a predetermined RPM. It will actualy go past redline if you let it. The manual says to press the clutch and then press the accellerator to the floor and it will stop at a predetermined RPM. Mine does not. Am I doing something wrong? What RPM should it stop at?

Don't be tentative with your gas pedal... go ahead and quickly push it to the floor. Also be sure to let the clutch out as fast as you can.

it will work, i'm sure you've done this, but make sure you press the TC button quick twice where you get the second indicator light to come on to engage the comp mode, not just the T/C off light. Put the pedal to the metal (or plastic) with the clutch pressed and it will adjust to around 4K rpm I believe, then let it out when you're ready!

I posted this same question awhile ago.

The solution is that you aren't being mean enough. You have to kick your pedal to the floor like it is a baby puppy. You don't want to do it because it is so cute and delicate looking, but you have to if you want results.

(I don't actually kick puppies so please dont send PETA after me)

I tried the same thing yesterday but no luck.......I guess I was being to gentle................I'll have to kick the pedal to the floor like a baby puppy today and see if it works.

so did it work? I am having the same issue. I get it in competitive mode and timidly rev well past the 4000rpm mark. I got scared so I let off. Do you truly have to "MASH" it in order to kick the rev limiter to work?

Guys it is really not worth it and it has been blowing out some axles. The test magazine guys said they got to 60MPH faster without using it.

Just think about it: not doing clutch right-BOOM. Trannies and axles have went bang using it. And the dealers are not covering alot of the warranty work when it does break. One member was not coverd because his tires on the rear had to much ware compared to the front and he had to pay for his axle repair.

somehow, i just can't believe that.

anway,

to get launch mode to initiate:

- in neutral, on a flat surface (not moving at all)
- presss the traction control button twice (you'll see a message on the dic confirming your in comp mode)
- floor the gas (nothing gradual, just put it to the floor; the rpms should hold around 4700 or so)
- put the clutch in
- shift into first
- release the clutch
- go weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

----

the problem with launch control is that people dont understand how it actually works. the system attempts to monitor what sort of surface your car is currently sitting on within the first few milliseconds of the launch. if your on cold tires, on a cold road you'll have very little grip and the launch will suck (the system does notice this; and will not put as much power to the wheels as possible ie a bad launch).

now, if you warm up your tires, and your on something remotely sticky; you'll see amazing times and consistant at that. (there's a reason why on the vette, the launch control does .1 seconds after in the 0-60 then factory spec; but then again they do it right.)

in the end, no matter how good you are at launching; a computer will always be better (under the right conditions).

same idea behind a dual clutch transmission, no matter how quickly you can shift; the computer will always shift faster then you.

enjoy your launch control!

///edit

can someone sticky this so people dont keep posting how to launch? this is the 4th time i've written out the instructions.

............

YES! MASH IT!

If you are timid about it you will just redline it every time.

LOL, the first few times I tried it I also was too timid. Didn't mash it to the floor quick enough, you get scared because it isn't a natural thing to do. However after getting it to work it's bogus as hell. You can do much better yourself after you learn the car's drive train. After the first little chirp or wheel spin it backs off then chirps a second time, backing off again wayyy to much. Maybe it works better in the Corvette I don't know but in this car it seems like a novelty more than anything useful for drag racing with good launches.

Ok....so it does work. I was pushing the accelerator down fast and it didn't work, so I thought something was wrong. So I "Stabbed it" to the floor and that is what it took.

I do a quick "double tap" on the gas. . . works great when done that way.
