The Customer Service Team mentions that there were fitment issues with the original version they sold you but only sends you a picture of the new redesigned part?
No offer of a swap or discount on replacement?
They did not try to contact you over the past years to let you know about the issue?

A while back I watched a youtube video where an engine was hooked up to a dynamometer --- the guy took a big hammer and knocked a dent in one of the header tubes, he tested output, then slowly dented further a step at a time, he seemed to dent the tube about half-way closed and still did not lower the performance.

I have had them in the box since 2011 due to an unforeseeable list of events. I have finally just put them on, I do not recall a warranty card or if I sent it in. There was not one in the box when I did the install. I sent them another reply last night and will post with the outcome.

Thanks for the header denting information. Back in the 80's before the world of CNC benders and jigs it was normal to dent the headers for slight clearance issues...thought those days were behind us.

There ad in the link that you posted said that the headers are covered by a lifetime warranty, and since they changed the way that they make them due to fitment issues. I would ask them to be replaced under the lifetime warranty. Seems only fair to me they knew that there were fitment issue is why they changed design. So i would ask for a new set, see what they say

I sent them....
I am guessing that your warranty will not apply to my case as you have not offered any solution to me for my poorly fitting headers. Is this correct?

Thank you,
David Fern

And they replied......

Good morning David,

We do understand the frustration you are occurring with the headers not fitting the vehicle as told to you by Southwest Speed. Your headers don’t qualify for a warranty based upon non-fitment per our posted warranty policy on our website. See link below for further information.
https://shop.dougthorleyheaders.com/pages/warranty

What we can offer to you is a huge discount on the replacement model. The link to the part was listed previously in this email string for further information on this set. Here is the price that we can offer to you

$520.00 w/ FREE SHIPPING

I think I am going to pull the header and dimple it so it quits hitting the knuckle.

And i say they owe you a new set at least half price if not free for selling you a product that was defective in the first place, they admitted they redesigned them due to fitment issues. What if the headers were reposible for wrecks due to loss of steering control 8f the vehicle they are lucky on that account. Could have been the next big product liability lawsuit for them. I would not dimple the headers to make them work make them either give you a new set for free or at least half price. What do you guys think.

It's great you figured it out cause it might have been difficult to figure out a new route to work with ony left hand turns ! But seriously, don't you just love it when shops don't double check what they are sticking on your car and the fit of it all.. Be careful that steering colum likes to rust if you just look at it. Dont ask. I am anal retentive about my engine compartment. Paint it after you grind it !

Thanks for the heads up on the rust. I will not be grinding on the steering knuckle. That was a joke. I will be pulling the header and clearance the tube to prevent it form doing any damage to the steering.
