Noise and vibration when turning right

When I turn to the right I am getting a vibration in the steering wheel and noise when I turn to the right sometimes. I have read some posts but not finding a definitive answer. I have determined I have power steering fluid in the system and not the auto trans fluid. I pumped out the fluid in the reservoir and put in the GM fluid to re fill it. This seems to help a bit so I might try it several times to get a fluid change. I am also considering pumping it our and putting in some Royal Purple power steering fluid.

Any thought, help, and suggestions are appreciated.

GM Trans fluid full synthetic is what we use on all our cars and builds. You may have air on one side of the rack. With good fluid, work the wheel to the left and right lock to lock. We are trying to force any air out. Give it a try.

Thank you for the info? Do you do this with the wheel on or off the ground?

On the ground.

I should have also suggested to check the wheel lug nut torque to make sure nothing is loose.

Do you have headers? Check your steering knuckle for scraping against the headers. Unless you have electronic steering of course. Just an idea!

Yes I do have headers. I will check it. Thank you. Only sometimes when I turn to the right and the wheel feels like it gets tight.

Checked Lug Torque. They Are good at 110 ft/lbs. It started before my wheel change.

Might be a coincidence but as I was reading your post, there was a PSA type piece running on the local TV station about wheel bearings!
Just a thought.

Sounds exactly like what happened to me after my long tube install. The steering knuckle was hitting one of the pipes. Mine are Dynatech.

Looks like it might be the steering shaft touching the headers like you guys said. Finally got back and had time to pop the hood. Steering shaft is right next to the header and a little spot of the black paint is rubbed off the knuckle on the steering shaft. Guess I will have to grind down the shaft to clear my ceramic coated headers..LMAO. Just like the old days time to dimple the tube.

Glad you figured it out. Now get with the folks at Doug Thorley and get a new set that fits properly. I believe they'll be thankful you let them know of the potential issues with future customers.
The same exact thing happened to me. Dynatech was great and got me a brand new set that fit properly. Good luck!

You can see where the header hits the steering knuckle. I have contacted Doug Thourley and provided the picture that is seen here.

The reply to this was....
Subject: RE: Contact From Doug Thorley Headers

Good morning Sir,

Thank you for the photo and the packing slip attached to your previous email. By looking at the packing slip we can see that you purchased part number THY-337Y-C, that part number was superseded by part number THY-339Y-C due to the header design having some fitment issues on some models. We redesigned and discontinued those headers late in 2011. Below is a link to the newer style released early in 2012.

just noticed that no photos are up on these so I dug up an mock photo before it was to be on a website. Please find that image attached as well.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us at any time.
