FWIW, I have a 3'' cat back and CAI, no tune. So far so good. No check engine light or driveability issues. Just great sound and improved performance. Maggie 2300 will get installed next week (I hope) and it'll have to get a tune then.

The Cold Air intake you choose may or may not need tuning, Most Do Not.

You can use the Cold air intake results as a guide, Lower Fuel Trims Mean either little or No tuning required.

Knock will learn out so Nothing to be worried about there.

These computers Constantly are adjusting to the conditions and they are tuned for max Power.

Once you get in to a Blower, Cam, Heads, Different Mass Air Flow Meter, Larger injectors, then Tuning Is Absolutely necessary.

Thank you for your honesty and expertise, as for as preventing the SES light from coming on when running long tube headers, I modified two spark plug fouler extenders installed them into the rear O2 sensors on a buddy of mine 08 Mustang with Kooks long tubes, and he has yet to see any SES light, would I get the same results on the Camaro LS3.

Thanks.

There's a reason exhaust and CAI won't void your drivetrain warranty
and a reason that a tune will.

I've had my car in for service with CAI and Catback and they didn't even mention it.

I've got the Roto-Fab CAI, Doug Thorley shorties and the Flowmaster 3" cat back system and NO tune. I just checked my AF on my dyno sheet and it ran between 12 and 13 on both runs consistently.

But he didn't say which CAI he's getting. There are CAI's that NEED a tune to work properly. Adding a exhaust upgrade to that will only make it worse.

Thanks.
The spark plug anti foulers have been known to work in most cases but not all.

Ted.

Agreed. Typically we are seeing a 15-20 RWHP gain from tuning. And remember these are peak gains, there are gains across the entire powerband.
