tuning required CAI and exhaust

Ok, I understand that these cars really wake up when they are tuned properly, and that these effects are really noticable when the car has bolt-ons like CAI and exhaust; however, most people do not have their cars tuned, ever.

So, what are the possible damages that a car might encounter when doing these bolt-ons with no tune? Will the car not tweak itself in the ECU to run without damaging itself? I know it will not be as efficient as with a tune, but could it really harm itself if a teenager decides he wants to put a catback and a CAI for some extra HP and sound? I'm not talking about serious mods like a SC or cam, either.

If you are not looking for the last HP i don't think there is a problem, Get the CAI you like the best and find all the info on it and the headers you can, And then buy it if it works for you.

well if mods add good amount of HP then there is chance car can go lean and that bad for engine.. but doubt it with just exhaust and CAI..

someone with CAI and exhaust that got car dynoed needs to chime in with their untune afr..

There were a few CAI's that began to have a small amount of knock, according to the CAI test that Jannety did. I think one of these with a good flowing exhaust could exacerbate that.

Tag's car is insane, he also just found out about the cel reset. He is running h/I/e combo with no tune and his car is running amazing! I have intake, down pipes, otr intake, full 3" exhaust and a ported tb with a street tune and my car is running amazing also. It's up to you. I spent about 1700 for everything! I think I am cheap but like I said, the car runs perfect

I don't think anyone would consider these mods major. I have not cracked the motor at all. I know some people don't even think a cam is a major mod.

I talked with the service mgr when I ordered,he said he personally didnt care about mods, but he said if the zone rep shows up and if there is a car in the bay that has been modded,it has to be noted by the service man or he gets busted,I asked about exhaust,he said axle back is ok,in front is a gray area if the zone rep sees it....I have heard all the builders are getting picky.

It sounds like your car should be running very strong, has it been on the tread mill ?

I don't think you neeed to worry about getting leaned out from the bolt on mods, I am running the roto-fab CAI, and the Borla cat back set up on my camaro, and the exhaust tips are as black as night from exhaust soot. So that tells me she is running very rich.
I only have 6500 KMS on her right now, so the computer could still be running it in break in mode as well. Either way I will be giving vector motor sports a call in the spring for a tune, and hopefully dial in this car.
Just my .02

Headers and exhaust will Not need tuning.

The Cold Air intake you choose may or may not need tuning, Most Do Not.

You can use the Cold air intake results as a guide, Lower Fuel Trims Mean either little or No tuning required.

Knock will learn out so Nothing to be worried about there.

These computers Constantly are adjusting to the conditions and they are tuned for max Power.

Once you get in to a Blower, Cam, Heads, Different Mass Air Flow Meter, Larger injectors, then Tuning Is Absolutely necessary.

Ted.

You won't need a tune with an exhaust and cold air intake. If you want every bit of power then get a tune afterwards.
