again i didn't mean to demean anybody i'm just very passionate about this issue and i will really be annoyed if this issue causes problems with the camaro....

drilling is not a partisan issue its a common sense issue that is good for all Americans

come on this country was built on polarizing debates
we can't all run around trying to play politically correct and all agreeing with each other all the time...
bottom line somebody is right and somebody is wrong...both sides can't win this isn't the pee wee's where everybody gets a trophy this is real life

There are a lot of good points made on this site.... not all of them come from the Republican/Democrat koolaid drinking extremists.... both have made some good points and some bad ones...

Drilling is not THE answer, but it is absolutely necessary to increase drilling and increase refining, while GM works on perfecting cars like the Volt etc...
We also need to look into expanding nuclear energy and the safe disposal of nuke waste. Texas is already expanding the use of windmills to produce electric, the giant windmills should be popping up all over the U.S.
E-85 needs to be available in more areas outside Iowa etc...
The crackheads that say we wont see any benefit from increased drilling for 10 years... are just drinking their parties' koolaid. In 1941, most of the US Navy fleet was destroyed at Pearl Harbor, it did not take anywhere near 10 years to build a new fleet and display the strength necessary to end World War II.
We might not see a barrel of new oil from ANWAR for a few years, but when are we going to see affordable electric/ hydrogen etc cars that can drive across the U.S. ? If we knew what / when the replacement for gas would be a viable option, we might be able to justify not drilling more, maybe.
I think, even if we knew, we should continue drilling cause I want to be able to have affordable gas for the vehicles we already own... for a long time.

The goal is energy independance. I don't care if it takes 20 years. There is no excuse for this country not to be energy independant. And while we are using and refineing our own oil we can research and develop the future technologies/fuels we will need.

We should stop this stupid oil drill business and start copying Brazil. Brazil is the only countrie that support it self with energy. Also the Brazilian people have a choice. You want to go fast but it will cost you buy gas or do you want to go slow and save money buy E85.

How does speed relate to the fuels like that?

It would be a lot easier if we were as small as Brazil.

just my 2cents, until Bush or our future president can grow some cahones and tell Green Peace to F&%$ off and stick their endangered species list where the sun doesn't shine, I don't see much hope for getting our government to drill domestic oil.

thats the ultimate point...drilling is the solution for the present obviously not the long term solution as in about 100-150 yrs we'll be out of oil but as of right now we can cut the price in half easily while still allowing our great companies to develop technologies that make us energy independent...

i don't have a problem with alternative energies...but i do have a problem with government putting restrictions like cafe and having to meet mpg requirements as the market will decided that because if people stop buying low mpg cars the market will force companies to go in the opposite direction

but the mustang sells well so obviously there is a market for our muscle cars and v6's always sold more than the v8's anyway i think

in 100-150 years, the technology will be here. We will have alternative sources for fuel, but right now, I'm tired of paying $100 to fill my tank.

I thought the reason that we weren't drilling had a little bit to do that it will do no good here because of the lack of refineries (specifically new ones). It does no good to have a bunch of crude oil if it is just going to sit around waiting to be refined by refineries that aren't getting the job done.

On a side note, I read an article from that oil guru guy who wants to put billions into wind power to free up the natural gas used by power plants to be transfered over to automobiles cutting the dependancy on oil by something like... 1/3? Just a thought.
